BABY DOE IDENTIFIED: BELLA BOND / ARRESTS MADE
#1
BACKGROUND

Back in June, a woman walking her dog discovered a small body in a trash bag on a beach in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts.

Authorities created a digital image of what they believed the female child looked like based on the remains.

The media helped authorities by publishing the image extensively, imploring members of the public to call in tips if they recognized the child or had any information about a missing girl.

This week that tip finally came and led investigators to Rachelle Bond and Michael McCarthy, the child's mother and her boyfriend. The dead toddler was determined to be 2-year-old Bella Bond.

ARRESTS

Massachusetts State Police Col. Richard McKeon said, "83 days after we found this little girl we're at last able to speak for Baby Bella."

"To learn...Baby Doe was not even 3 years old breaks everybody's heart," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans. He added that "It's a good day that we brought a name to this face but it's a sad day that we lost a young child and we'll never be able to bring her back."

"We hoped against hope that her death was not a crime, the evidence suggests otherwise. This child was murdered," said District Attorney Conley. "She was a true innocent, her very name means beauty."

^ Rachelle Bond, Bella's mother, has been charged with accessory after the fact; her boyfriend Michael McCarthy has been charged with murder.

The mother told police her boyfriend, Michael Patrick McCarthy, punched the girl formerly known as "Baby Doe" several times in the stomach, which led to her death.

"She (the mother) tried to be responsible, but she was on drugs," said Yessiomora Torres, a neighbor. "She talked slurred, she’d come out and smoke a cigarette, her daughter would be crying."

Suffolk County DA Daniel Conley did not offer specifics on Rachelle Bond's involvement, but she may have been involved in the placement of Bella's body on Deer Island.

Conley said more about the evidence against the toddler's mother and her boyfriend will be revealed in court on Monday.

Bella was a beautiful baby.

I saw this story when it first broke and I'm so glad she has been identified. Another mother who put her own needs ahead of her child's. Selfish bitch. I hope a judge throws the book at her. She might not have thrown the first punch but I hold her as responsible as the one who did.

It's almost impossible to imagine how a mother can not only keep her mouth shut about the beating death of her precious 2-year-old, but stay with the vile piece of shit who she claims dealt the fatal blows.

I share Duchess' view; I don't care if the mom was on drugs or not. She brought the guy into Bella's life, she knew he killed the baby (unless it was she herself who did it, as the boyfriend now claims), and she covered-up the crime.

Just like in the Baby Elaina Ohio case, no matter who physically killed baby Bella, I think both the mother and her boyfriend are equally guilty and deserve to rot in prison.

Children are to be cherished. I was listening to people talk about this last night and someone said the Mom's FB page was full of love for Bella. Pfft. That's meaningless. I woulda been all over that cocksucka like a crazed cat the very first time he even raised his voice at that baby. I don't have any sympathy for that mother, not a bit.

NEW DETAILS RELEASED

[Image: article-3241098-2C82198800000578-718_636x382.jpg]

Bella was just shy of three years old when her body was found on Deer Island in Winthrop by a woman walking a dog on June 25.

The case involving the girl broke open on Wednesday when a tipster in Billerica told police Bond admitted to the caller's brother that McCarthy 'killed her child'. The tipster told police McCarthy allegedly killed Bella because he 'supposedly thought the child had demons in her'.

McCarthy faces a murder charge while Bond faces a charge of accessory after the fact of murder. They are expected to be arraigned on Monday.

The girl's father, Joseph Amoroso, told the Boston Herald that Bella was conceived in a tent at Occupy Boston and that he believes Bond has nothing to do with their daughter's death. 'She told me the whole story,' he said. 'She was very emotional, sincere through the whole thing, and I believe her. 'I believe her — that it was this man who murdered our daughter, murdered a two-year-old.'

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker said during the conference that Bond had other children who were older, however her parental rights to two of them were terminated between 2001 and 2006. According to court records, Bond was arrested at least three times for prostitution. She also reportedly struggled with drug addiction.

The father is an asshole and I'm not interested in his god damn opinion. Obviously he wasn't involved in her life or he might have noticed she was missing all this time and reported it accordingly.

People are questioning why CPS took the older kids and didn't revisit the situation/take Bella.

Rot, rot, rot!!

I agree. The body was found three months ago.

That means the father obviously hadn't had any contact with his little girl for at least that long.

He reportedly broke up with the mom after he found out she had prostitution busts and he moved to Florida, leaving his daughter with messed up mom and her winner dudes.

He moved back to Massachusetts in August. So, he was local again and still hadn't any first hand contact with his daughter; didn't raise any red flags.

His mom, Bella's grandmother, says she saw the news stories and billboards with the composite image and thought the unidentified girl looked like Bella, but she hadn't seen Bella in so long... That makes no sense to me, you'd think not having seen Bella in so long would motivate (not deter) her to try to confirm that Bella was okay or to call the tip line and have police check into it.

Poor baby - ensuring her well-being wasn't a priority for any of the adults in her life.

Arraignment

[Image: COMBO-Michelle-Bond--Michael-McCarthy-jpg.jpg]
^ Rachelle Bond and Michael McCarthy were arraigned this morning.

Prosecutor David Deakin said in late-May, McCarthy went into Bella’s room because she was “unruly,” and did not want to go to sleep. A short time later, Rachelle Bond went into the room and saw that her daughter was unresponsive, Deakin said.

“She found Mr. McCarthy standing over Bella, who was on a bed and the mattress was on the floor, standing over Bella with his hand near her abdomen. When Miss. Bond looked at Bella, her head was swollen, and her face was gray,” Deakin said. “She asked Mr. McCarthy what he had done, he did not tell her but said, ‘She was a demon, and it was her time to die.’”

Deakin said McCarthy believed the child was possessed by demons, and had on previous occasions locked the girl in a closet.

The tip that led to the arrests came from a friend of McCarthy's who asked were Bella was after he saw the composite image of unidentified dead girl. The tipster said that McCarthy had been abusive to the girl in the past. McCarthy told the tipster that CPS (who had been called to the house twice before) had taken Bella, but the tipster was suspicious and called police.

Deakin said McCarthy and Bond shot up heroin and became intoxicated “for a period of several days,” before removing her body from the refrigerator and dumping it in the water. Her body was later found June 25 on Deer Island.

As the details of the alleged murder were disclosed, Megan Fewtrell, who said she was Bella’s godmother, erupted in anger and was led out of the courtroom.“I hope you rot in hell, you demon. I hope you (expletive) rot in hell,” she said.

McCarthy was held without bail, and Rachelle Bond was held on $1 million bail. They are due back in court Oct. 20.

Did Bella's Father Know before Police?

^ Joseph Amoroso (center), Bella’s biological father, said before court that he came to support the 2-year-old, whom he never met.

"She (Rachelle) told me that Michael McCarthy had murdered our daughter, stuffed her in a trash bag and threw her in the ocean in South Boston," Amoroso said.

He also suggested that Rachelle Bond was threatened by McCarthy.

“(Rachelle) did speak of the many threats, day after day for five months,” Amoroso said. “It only makes sense that Rachelle Bond was held captive in the house for five months, because nobody (saw her).”

Amoroso said he has been in Florida for a couple of years and returned to Massachusetts in August hoping to meet his daughter. He said Bond told him last week what happened to their child and stayed with him in Lynn on Thursday night. He said he was questioned Friday. He has not been charged.

He knew she was dead and yet it took a concerned neighbor to finally report her dissapearance to police. He was never there for her during her short life and failed her in death.Amoroso needs to just stfu and go away.

I agree, Broad.

Amoroso appears to be much more concerned about defending and making excuses for his ex than he does about the death of his daughter (whom he'd never even met).

Mom's ex-boyfriend gets life in killing of 'Baby Doe'

BOSTON — A Massachusetts man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison in the killing of a 2-year-old girl who became known as Baby Doe after her remains washed up on the shore of a Boston Harbor island.

Michael McCarthy, 37, will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years under the sentence imposed by Judge Janet Sanders.

McCarthy was convicted Monday of second-degree murder in the 2015 killing of Bella Bond, the daughter of his girlfriend at the time. A computer-generated image of Bella was shared by millions on social media as authorities scrambled to identify her.

Assistant District Attorney David Deakin asked the judge to set McCarthy's parole eligibility at 25 years — 10 years more than the minimum. McCarthy's lawyer called that recommendation "vindictive" and asked Sanders to make him eligible for parole after 15 years. The judge came out in the middle of the two recommendations at 20 years.

Defendant Michael P. McCarthy looks at his attorney Jonathan Shapiro after a guilty of second degree murder against him at Suffolk Superior Court on Monday, June 26, 2017. The girl's mother, Rachelle Bond, who also was charged in the case, was the prosecution's star witness. She told the jury she saw McCarthy kill her daughter one night after the girl didn't want to go to bed.

McCarthy's lawyer, Jonathan Shapiro, insisted that Bond was the real killer and cast a "web of lies" to blame McCarthy.

"There was no justice for Mr. McCarthy here," Shapiro said.

Bond pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact for helping McCarthy dispose of her daughter's body. Under a plea deal with prosecutors, she is expected to serve less than two years in jail. The agreement calls for her to be released after her sentencing July 12.

Bella Bond's father, Joseph Amoroso, gave a victim impact statement before McCarthy was sentenced, describing Bella as "a happy and innocent child full of life."

"I was robbed of my chance to be a father to Bella," he said.

Testimony during the trial showed the girl's short life was marked by turmoil. Both McCarthy and Bond were heroin addicts. A friend testified that he saw McCarthy discipline the girl by putting her in a locked closet.

Man. Such a sad, horrible story. Poor Bella. I think I hate these stories most of all. How do you not love your baby above all else. How?
