THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY

The third government shutdown of the Trump administration is now the longest in U.S. history.

800,000 federal employees and contractors are impacted by the ongoing shutdown Trump has directed in attempt to get  $5.6 billion in 2019 for a border wall or barrier.

On Friday, federal employees received paychecks for $0 dollars.  The federal employees will reportedly get back pay when the government re-opens, but that doesn't help them put food on the table now, or pay health-care costs due now, or pay the rent/mortgage due now, or avoid their credit ratings declining for missed payments.

In his latest narrative, Trump says the border wall will be indirectly paid for by Mexico via new NAFTA (USMCA).  He and the administration have provided no details or responses to questions regarding that claim.

"That's a chapter you will NOT find in the new Agreement, simply because it does NOT exist #MexicoWontPay#factcheckingplease,” Kenneth Smith Ramos, who served as Mexico’s chief NAFTA negotiator under former President Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration, wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

While the modernized NAFTA deal could potentially grow the economy and increase overall tax revenues, those would be paid by the increased output of U.S. companies and workers and not by the Mexican government.

The funds aren't likely to be coming from tariff revenue. Most tariffs between the U.S. and Mexico were waived nearly 25 years ago through the original free-trade agreement. The new pact keeps most of those tariff reductions in place, which means not much money will be flowing into the Treasury.

The new trade deal does include rules that make it harder for auto companies to build vehicles or certain parts in Mexico and export them to the U.S. duty free. More auto companies, both American and foreign, might choose to pay the 2.5 percent tariff rather than complying with a new web of content requirements.

The result of more vehicles being charged tariffs could be more money in U.S. coffers, but those costs will likely be paid by importers in the U.S. and possibly U.S. consumers if dealers choose to pass on the added cost to the buyer.

White House strategic communications director Mercedes Schlapp acknowledged on CNN on Wednesday that U.S. taxpayers would ultimately pay for the wall.

Trump's having a worse than usual meltdown on twitter this morning, he's now insisting that the dems are the ones refusing to negotiate a deal that includes DACA.

He's not even trying with his lies anymore, he's contradicting himself in the same sentence.

They rejected the DACA deal when it was raised last her didn't they? So he told the truth? You aren't trying anymore.

Bizarre, as usual.

Last year, the Democrats agreed to give Trump $2.5billion a year for 10 years to fund the wall, in exchange for a path to citizenship for the Dreamers.  Trump said he'd sign such a deal.

But, he couldn't get enough Republicans on board and got a lot of push back from the immigration hardliners in his base.  So, he reneged.

Now, he expects to be given even more by using federal workers as pawns, and has offered nothing in return.  That's a sucker's deal for the Dems, especially since they wield considerably more power than they did last year.

If Trump wants to negotiate a DACA deal for more border barrier funding, the ball is in his court. I've seen nothing to indicate he's actually put an offer on the table.

Can anyone guess why teachers are striking in California today? And what does it have to do with illegal immigration? Extra points for knowing when the last time they were on strike.

Oh man, pop quizzes on Monday mornings aren't fair Mr. Maggot.  Smiley_emoticons_smile

I know why they're striking for the first time in 30 years, based on the teachers union announcement.

Why do you think they're striking?

You can chose to ignore it if you like but that is the case here. If you would like me to produce documentation I can. But until people such as yourself see the root cause of this and many other problems it will continue. Today the Diploma that a California High school student gets is not worth the paper its written on. Believe it or not. It was not so before prop 13.

I'm not just pissing on California though New York is headed in the same direction.

The struggle for the teachers is real.

Meanwhile Trump feeds Crimson Tigers Fast Food at the White House, stating that it is good American Food, which included Hamburgers and french fries from at least 3 different fast food chains.

You're either misinformed or you're being willfully ignorant.
I'll go with the latter.
