Steve King from Iowa is repulsive. There should be no place in Washington for bigots & racists. He said "I'd like to see an America that is so homogeneous that we look a lot the same". These assholes aren't even trying to hide their racist bs anymore.

I'm just catching up on the news. What King said (not for the first time), and how Trump's mouthpieces are trying to make it seem like he said something entirely different, is pitiful. It's insulting to the intelligence of Americans. I really hope such supremacist views aren't becoming mainstream.

And Kellyanne Conway's attempt to rationalize Trump's baseless contention that Obama wiretapped him was asinine. I'm pretty damned sure Obama didn't spy on Trump through the microwave and the government isn't tapping my microwave either. 78

Looks like the investigators gave President Trump an extension today; he now has until March 20th to come up with something substantiating his tweet allegation against Obama. What a farce.

Then why did they build this?

Utah Data Center

I'm pretty sure the government didn't build that huge data storage facility to monitor how long it takes my niece to burn popcorn in my crappy little microwave, or so that Obama could find out what setting President Trump uses to warm up Big Macs between Twitter sessions.

Seriously, Pappy, I think the NSA's Utah Data Center was built with the intention of mining and storing data gathered from the surveillance of phone, email, internet, and other communications of American citizens and foreign entities -- for the purpose of counter terrorism and preparing for cyber warfare.

I remember when smart T.V.'s first came out there was talk of its ability to monitor the people watching it. I have no doubt that cell phone makers and anything with smart technology wouldn't be in collusion with government entities. I'm surprised there hasn't been a big call for people to give up their old televisions for newer models.

That's quite a bit of storage capacity considering the amount of info that can be smashed into a zip drive. I would imagine the space needed to tie it all in to one central bank would be a bit of a project. They would need quite a bit of room for pizza parties too.

I have a couple smart TV's and I choose to connect them to my FIOS. If people are genuinely concerned they can forego that aspect of them. I don't believe anyone is watching or listening to what goes on in my home. It would be an incredible waste of resources to do that.

Yeah, and if you're really that worried about it, turn off the camera and voice recognition. Done deal.

From the little I've read about it, including the link pappy posted, the location and size of the facility makes sense to me. Cyber warfare and technological invasions/hacks are serious threats to national and global security.

I'd imagine, and hope, that the U.S. intelligence agencies are seriously investing in training and developing teams of cutting edge technology mining engineers capable of picking up and deciphering terrorist communications in and outside of the U.S., determining whether electronic voting stations have been compromised, identifying and quashing attempted hacks of U.S. financial and governmental systems..........important shit like that.

If for any reason at all, any persons life in the U.S. could be devastatingly destroyed at any given moment by pissing off the right person. So I gave the beggar outside the shopping center a quarter just to be safe.

There was a reason Osama bin laden's compound had no connection to the world outside that compound; alot of them have recently been leaked. The government can read any computer (or electronic device) through the electric grid.

The government can do a whole lot more.

Is the government watching you personally, yes. The US is recording every electronic communication everywhere and storing it by IP adress. That is what that center was built for.

Now, what is sobering, if the government is recording every thing about you, what happens when the powers that be get a hard on for you personally. As an example, Trump decides he is pissed The Hellbitch won the popular vote and decides to make life uncomfortable for her supporters. That center is the beginning of that effort.

You nay sayers will say impossible; I will remind you about the IRS targeting the Tea Party.

The technology at the discretion of the government is mind blowing; how is it going to be used by unscrupulous people?

The fact is quite clear, General Flynn was in Trump Tower when that phone call got recorded. How and why was his name leaked? I believe it is not hard to assume the reason was political. Unscrupulous people using technology to destroy a political opponent.

I have said many times, you are being lied to. The power brokers in Washington, on both sides of the aisle, will destroy any one that they think poses a threat to their power.

Taking the profit out of the government is the real solution. Cut the budget by 50%. No one in this country is safe, if some one in power decides you are a threat for what ever insane reason they decide. Some times some schumk is made an example of just to send some one else a message.

Ask your self this question: are there any unscrupulous people in the employ of the government? If you answer that question is in the affirmative, then that center should scare the shit out of you.

Who will use it next and for what purpose?

I agree with you that there are some unscrupulous people in the government, pappy.

And, history proves that governments can and have targeted individuals and groups of citizens for religious reasons, for financial gain, as payback, etc...

I'm not scared shitless though, especially not for myself. But, I am concerned that more than a few Americans seem not to care or even kinda celebrate foreign intervention in our elections, elected officials making public unconstitutional threats against residents and citizens in the U.S. and people of other countries, rampant false rhetoric and propaganda being cranked out by the President and the White House, etc...

So... I try to stay informed and aware and get involved when Americans' rights are threatened or violated. And, I'll be voting in every congressional mid-term election moving forward.

France Presidential Elections

[Image: Marine-Le-Pen-was-critical-of-Macron-s-d...753135.jpg]

Man, I did not want to see Marine LePen advance in the French presidential election, but she has.

She's the leader of the far right National Front, taking over after her father was convicted of racism and anti-semitism.

There will be a run off between her and Emmanuel Macron (both pictured above). Macron is a centrist pro-European Union ex-banker and economy minister who founded his own party only a year ago. The next round of voting goes down on May 7.

LePen's pledges include expelling foreigners and organising a referendum to bring France out of the EU as quickly as possible, which would mean returning to the Franc and leaving NATO.

LePen has been supported by US President Donald Trump because he says she is the 'strongest on borders, and she's the strongest on what's been going on in France'.

Back in the U.S.A...........More idiocy, in my opinion, on college campuses. This time at UC Berkeley, again.

This bullshit by extreme liberals is so hypocritical and weak to me. UC Berkeley, especially, used to be the leader in cultivating free speech and alternative thinking. Now, the Republicans on campus can't book a high-profile right-wing speaker without vandalism and threats of vandalism shutting them down.

Back in February, Breitbart editor and right-wing troll Milo Yiannopoulis was prevented from speaking at UC Berkeley due to vandalism and campus fires carried out by protesters. Two months later....... and liberal protesters are threatening to do the same because right-wing pundit, author and troll Ann Coulter was booked to speak on April 27th.

Coulter says she's still planning to speak and she and the Republican student body are threatening to take legal action at school administration for trying to reschedule the speaking engagement to a less ideal date/time.
