SEXUAL HARASSMENT
#1

Have you ever experienced it?

I have, pretty much since I was a kid but was too young to even know what it was. It made me uncomfortable and when a friend's dad did it I was skeeved out of my mind but still didn't understand it was sexual harassment.

I saw this being discussed yesterday and was blown away to see just how prevalent it is and it inspired me to ask all of you if you've experienced it.

We've talked about so much in here and this may already have been a topic. I can't recall.

Did Hugh Hefner exploit women or did he see a need and fill it with grown women giving their full consent?

Yes and I don't want to think about my kids having to deal with it. Nobody wants to sexually harass me now, but when I was a teenager there was always some creepy old man fucking with me.Whether they're trying to pick me up walking home from school or actually calling me over to their car while they're jerking off, or just outright touching me inappropriately. There have been several instances.

I have experienced abuse from a family member and I was raped when I was 18. Had I been 17 they would have gone to jail.
I have experienced light harrasment at places of work but won't tolerate it and I know I am protected by laws.

When the #catcalling discussions were being had in various places last year several women shared stories of how normal this was and the guys were astonished and had no idea most women go through some form of harrasment or abuse or cat calling growing up. I am sad any of us has had to deal with it.

I remember going to the store when I was 14 and I was with my sister and 2 older men told me to lift up my sweatshirt so they could see my ass. WTF. Who does this kind of shit, but I have seen it.

My second youngest brother once told me he raped some 14 year old girl at a high school party but he smokes a lot of weed and liked to tell "stories" to see my reaction back when I was younger, so who knows if its true.

If anyone heard me utter the kind of stuff about women that the women say about men in front of me I'd get fired.

On two separate occasions recently the elder George Bush has been accused of sexual harassment and some people are pissed and blaming the females. They say it's in really poor taste to make that accusation because he's so old and in a wheelchair. Why would people excuse this behavior because the dude is old? Jesus.

^ I'm just speculating here.

I think maybe there's not as much backlash against Bush senior because nobody's claiming he sexually harassed them on the job, forced himself upon them, or wouldn't take no for an answer (at least not that I've seen so far).

A very old man patting asses without invitation could technically qualify as sexual harassment. But if he wasn't threatening anybody's job or promising return favors and he didn't refuse to take his hands off them, maybe it's generally being looked at as him just being a dirty old man?

That's not a good look anyway and the public call-out is probably embarrassing to him and his family, but he apologized and what he reportedly did isn't along the same lines as what Cosby, Weinstein, O'Reilly, and Ailles are accused of doing.

It'll be interesting to see if more women come forward and make accusations against him which occurred when he was younger and in a power position over them -- that could blow up. I hope that didn't happen.

That makes sense and it wasn't something I even considered.
