The redacted Mueller report is set to be released on Thursday.

But, unfortunately, it's highly unlikely to me that the majority of our elected officials, or the U.S. citizens who followed the investigation (which is reportedly a minority of the population), will consider it objectively.

It seems way more likely that those firmly planted on one side or the other will simply discard or attempt to discredit facts and findings that don't conform to their already-formed opinions and allegiances.

Anyway, I'm interested to see how closely it aligns with Barr's summary of it, how much has been redacted, and the list of evidence Mueller considered for and against an obstruction of justice charge.

I call it the Barr report.   Dramaqueen

I don't think it will bear any resemblance to Special Counsel Mueller's report. If it were an exoneration of president dimwit they wouldn't have been able to get it out there in its entirety fast enough.

No. Why are you peddling the dishonest narrative that he COULD present the Mueller report unredacted?

Is it that you know better but hope someone here is too ignorant to know the laws, that an angry Democrat led congress put in place about a need to redact Special Counsel reports and what needs to be redacted (in wake of the Starr report), or are you only spouting Liberal talking points without ANY critical examination or adherence to facts? Can i guess which one it is?

This is great, one investigation after another paid for by the people of the U.S. and there seems to be no end. It's not Trump it's Trump hatred that's fueling it. One thing doesn't work and it's off to start another. What a bunch of hypocritical stupidity. Trump will get another term from all this and again any investigations will be paid for by the taxpayer. If these dopes would spend a little bit of time doing their real jobs maybe just maybe a real deal would become a reality Immigration could be really addressed and infra structure could be something that is accomplished. Instead here we are waiting for the next stab at the President to slow down real progress. It's amazing that it's come this far. And this is what sets a precedent for our future. I would have thought the Mueller thing would have pacified their insatiable taste for blood. This type of hatred has never happened before at least not in my lifetime. Just Wow.

Well, Attorney General Bill Barr held a press conference prior to the Justice Department releasing the redacted Mueller report this morning.

Barr again contended that Mueller's report shows that Mueller did not consider the fact that there is a Justice Department protocol discouraging the indictment of a sitting President when he chose to leave the matter open-ended.

However, on the contrary............the Mueller report shows that Mueller did, in fact, contact the Justice Department's attorneys before choosing not to indict nor to exonerate President Trump.

And, Mueller's report does not indicate that he left it to Barr and Rosenstein to weigh the evidence of obstruction and make the final decision.  He instead referred to Congress.

"If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state," Mueller wrote. "Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, we are unable to reach that judgment."

Mueller's report also explicitly states that "we concluded that Congress has authority to prohibit a President's corrupt use of his authority in order to protect the integrity of the administration of justice."

“Congress can permissibly criminalize certain obstructive conduct by the President, such as suborning perjury, intimidating witnesses, or fabricating evidence, because those prohibitions raise no separation-of-powers questions," wrote Mueller.

So, we'll likely see further investigation and hearings by the congressional oversight committees.

Two things come to mind right away - you present that ^^^^^^ as if president nitwit was exonerated, he was not and the other thing is that if you had read even a paragraph of the report you wouldn't have called it a nothingburger because it is far, far from that.

Maybe you could read some of the report so you can see for yourself what is in it and then we can have a lovely lil' chat. 'K? Smiley_emoticons_smile

Yes, what has happened and that the Democrats have enthusiastically propagated and cheered on, they do not realised sets a REALLY dangerous precedent for someone to push the line further.

The thing these idiots do not realise is that playing the I can be crazier and more ruthless than you is a pretty dangerous game to play. I do think Trump will get his pound of flesh and I do not think he will break the law doing so and will hurt them big time but I DO NOT think he will step the boundaries they have to do so, rather he will punish them for breaking laws.

However with this precedent setting behaviour, what happens down the track when the Progressive strangehold of the media, academia, and social media is broken and there is an entrench Right wing culture? What happens when a charming right wing President managed to weaponise their Intelligence agencies and has a corrupt right wing leaning press and there is only a fringe of Liberal and Progressive outlets against him, and he in remembering the precedents set in 2016 and perhaps being able to finetune his exposure and the likelihood of it not working and  pushing things a little harder, decides to try to do the same or worse.

Democrats and the media do not ever think that far ahead. Their ideology is all that matters and it is only about what the can control NOW.

Yes I think by July they will be scurrying. The media and Democrats and Intel community will get thumped big time. It will be glorious.

I think Trump will be smart about it and leave those he seeks out as unable to extricate themselves from responsibility or able to do anything but cry for mercy and appeal for immunity or reduction of sentence in exchange for information and testimony. They will devour each other. Hopefully there will be enough in the way of justice to be able to judicially enforce any charges made.

Too long this has been one way sailing

The report says Trump wanted to and had said he should fire some of the people doing the investigation. he said a lot of things but never acted on any of it. He gave Meullar plenty of rope and leeway to do the investigation, The report is better for Trump than not and sure he fired Comey but he deserved it. Comey ,Brennan were not likeable guys in any of this. The way I see it is the investigation pretty much exonerated Trump without saying it and The FBI and justice department was weaponized by the previous administration. something that should not be done. The IRS was used in a nefarious way also but that's another chapter.

Now as the investigation goes into how it started and who instigated it's begining with George Popolopogus maybe the Fusion matter will be resolved. I know that both Republicans and democrats started it but I would like to see why a fake story that was planted in Yahoo was used as evidence to allow Trump to be spyed on, now THAT will be interesting.

I say let the left try to impeach Trump go for it!

The investigation continues..............
