Should men get paternity leave from work
#1
I know this guy who is taking 6 weeks off from his job, to spend some quality time with his wife and brand new Son.

He is using his earned 4 weeks vacation, and taking two additional unpaid weeks.

His wife's mother is/will be there to help out, so he will have lots of free time to doddle over his new son.

If his company had paternity leave for new father's, it would have made things easier for him, and him not having
to give up his vacation time. Paternity leave could be a benefit draw/perk to younger employees.

So should companies give new fathers paternity leave, what are the pitfalls, if any?

Of course they should, some do. Fathers are as deserving as mothers are. Some places give parents that time when they adopt as well.

I agree companies should grant paternity leave, at least 4 weeks for the father.

My motto for my people working in my department was, A happy crew, is a more productive crew! It proved to be very true!

Hopefully companies will wake up and make their employees a "happy" more productive crew!

Sure they should, but they should use their vacation time and sick days. It is not the companies fault.

We are a very wealthy country, yet, we are like a third world country by other countries standards.

I will say that I did not get that option when my kids were born. I had a day off for the births. It was a different time though and so hard to imagine the me of then growing up now and what values or sensibilities I would have had.
I can tell you that I loved being around them. I was glad I was there when they were born.

My company gives 6 weeks Paternity leave. One of my colleagues is taking his time starting the 2nd week in August. Which means I have to go to Vegas to cover one of his weeks off.

Especially gay men, like David Tutera. This should not even be a question. It's a no brainer.
