Should computer internet companies . . . . .
#1
.  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . be allowed to secretly gather information about their customers?

This has become a wide spread-- and growing -- privacy issue.

Every time you log onto the internet and visit an online retailer, news company or even a social media site,

computer internet companies gather information about you.

Should they have the right to do so, or should the practice be banned?

I personally think the practice should be banned, as it is an invasion of my privacy. If I want my personal info out there I should have the option to fill out a form of the site I want to have it!
After visiting some sites, I get bombarded daily from those sites with ads and commercials!
Many times For things I did not even inquire about.
Very annoying, to say the least!

So What do you think? Yes or No, Explain.

It's a sure-fire way of telling what people have been searching for. My Facebook has advertisements for patio furniture and kitchen utensils, my husband's has pictures of fucking beavers all over it.

Many sites these days tell you straight up that they use cookies and you have the option to stay or leave. You could take the time to clear your cookies everyday if you choose, I don't. I don't really care if they know what I've been shopping for and view it as the price I pay for wandering cyberspace.

What if they decide to use my personal info against me someday?

I have never liked the practice and when the opportunity presents I decline the cookies. Now and then I clean them out but all the time. Don't like it but really see no way to avoid it. Not being a master computer wizard I don't have the skills to put a stop to it or I would.
I have run a couple tests though, FB specifically I have had my page open, clicked off on another window and browsed something innocuous, then gone back to FB and refreshed and there it is already on my FB page.
Currently they are hawking Cast Stone Fire pits and gas powered generators

Well it happened again yesterday, when I researched a "non outside vented portable A/C unit" for my daughter's spare room.

I now have been bombarded with ads for the unit I looked at, as well as several others I did not research, as well as "things" I may also be interested in that "I did not look up".

Those leeches cookies were swept up and memorized before I could clear them! 106

I live my life like EVERYONE is gathering information about me. I am no threat to anyone, I am not doing anything wrong. The only thing I am guilty of is cheap one liners. I don't care.
