The government only recognizes the gender on your birth certificate.    I looked it up a couple of months ago, while arguing with a friend.   He said if we went to war,  and the draft was reinstated,  he would claim to be a transgender female to get out of being drafted.

When you file jointly they ask about a husband and wife or when you put a son or a daughter as a dependent. There is no maybe in that sense.
