I don't know what the fuck a smart lightbulb is but...

Isn't this just fucking great?

Discarded smart lightbulbs reveal your wifi passwords, stored in the clear

Your internet-of-shit smart lightbulb is probably storing your wifi password in the clear, ready to be recovered by wily dumpster-divers; Limited Results discovered the security worst-practice during a teardown of a Lifx bulb; and that's just for starters: the bulbs also store their RSA private key and root passwords in the clear and have no security measures to prevent malicious reflashings of their ROMs with exploits, network probes and other nasties.

Good Lord. This seems like a big deal.

I don't have any smart bulbs to worry about but I once caught Alexa listening to a conversation, she stays turned off now because that was just too creepy.

It's not so much the listening to a conversation that bothers me, anyone listening would be bored silly, I'm mostly goofy and warped around my home, it's the ick factor that is a little disturbing, it's fricken creepy.

I've got a little slider doohicky that goes over my laptop's webcam when I'm not using it. The idea of someone surreptitiously watching me even if all I'm doing is checking Mock creeps me out.
