As for forcing them to "work like slaves" to get the check, you stupid motherfucker! We do not force people into slave labor to get their money! The salaries you are quoting are AVERAGED out. Which means they are grossly INACURATE.
Granted we have our poor JUST LIKE THE UK does. But the Welfare to Work program is set up to teach those who do not have the job skills to earn a viable salary to support a family those very skills.
My mother worked for the NY Housing Authority for 35 years and you can bet I am right. She handled the rent and welfare situation for these tennants in the housing projects and believe me, they usually fared better than we did as kids.

As for health care costing us a lot of money...... duh..... dumbass it certainly costs more. Why? INFLATION and high insurance premiums. We would rather pay more and get better quality health care and KNOW our hospitals are clean than have the government regulate that and tell us when we can have an operation, what doctor we can see and when and know that even our worst hospitals are better than your best.

True story: My husband's (at the time) ex was living with a guy (drug dealer, as a matter of fact) and receiving a pretty hefty sum in child support for their one child, receiving welfare, food stamps and whatever other goodies come with it AND she got medical technician training for free. Nine months later, which is the length of training before getting your diploma/certificate/gold star... which actually lasted closer to a year since she wasn't always in the mood to go, the state tried to find a job for her and she refused to go. Did they take her off welfare? No they did not.
So we have a healthy woman in her 30s that refuses to work and is obviously lying about her living conditions and the state of California is allowing this bitch to live a life of luxury.
Just as a side note, when you'd walk into their (pretty nice) house, there were some LARGE ass glamour photos of her on the living room wall... we're talking at least 5' x 3' of her in some skimpy teddy with her nipple exposed. I couldn't help thinking how charming that'd be for her kid when she'd invite little friends over. Not to mention how much those fucking photos cost.

Good post - that type of story is repeated over and over. Generations dependent and addicted to free welfare money instead of going out and busting their ass to work and/or get educated.

NO ONE is denied health care if they ASK for it. All they have to do is file for charity care and you can either get it free or you pay it back on a sliding scale basis according to your income level. The key word here dim wit is ASK.
Just because the GOVERNMENT does not provide us health care, we HAVE it available. We just don't WANT some lame ass governmental agency telling us what to do in regard to our health. We want to choose our own doctors and we happen to like seeing the SAME one time after time. We do NOT like having our government pick our doctor for us.

LMPP - yes! My sister in law was the same way. Bitch had a ton of stuff, musical instruments, college education, then trade school after. She had a job the school found for her for about a month and decided that being a junkie was better. So because they deem being a junkie or alkie a 'disease' she gets fucking disability AND a welfare check and they paid her fucking $1000/ month rent! Meanwhile at the time that was going on, I was struggling to pay my mortgage and support my family by WORKING.
Why was I struggling? Because the TAXES were being taken out of my salary to pay for fucked up slobs like my sister in law and your husband's ex!
