the seatbelt law is bullshit.
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

I believe you should wear a seatbelt, I do. But you should not be fined for not wearing one as a secondary violation. That is just another way for the State to make money. If it was truly for your protection to force you to wear one then every dime recieved from the fines should be used as funding for an educational program.

And a seatbelt killed (decapitated) my older cousins boyfriend back in HS.

Seatbelts kill almost as many people as they save. But those statistics aren't put out for public consumption.

Fact: The seatbelt law is just another way for the gvmt to make money off the working stiff.

Word.

If people choose not to wear a seatbelt, that's on them. The gov't is so far up our asses trying to control our lives it's not even funny.

You own your own business and the gov't tells you cannot allow a legal activity in YOUR business if you choose????? I don't smoke, I hate cigarette smoke but it's not the gov'ts right or duty to tell me what I can allow in my establishment. It's a bunch of bullshit.

If I wanted to allow smoking in my fitness center, I should be allowed to. Will I have many member? Absolutely not, but it should be MY CHOICE to run my business as I see fit.

You don't think s/he would've died from the crash anyway?

Possibly, but I doubt it. His truck was barely damaged. I think he would have been injured fairly bad, but not killed. But we'll never know since it DID kill him because of the belt, now will we?

If he collided hard enough for the belt to take his head off, he probably would've gone through the windshield without it.

But hey, if you don't wanna wear a seatbelt because you think they're deathtraps, go for it. I just know in my personal experience, it saved my life... the airbags helped a lot as well.

That was the weird thing about it Lumpy. The police report said he was going between 25 and 30mph at impact. So it makes no sense that the belt did what it did. BUT it did. Tragedy sucks ass.

I now have a vision of Frank catapulting out through the front windscreen of his vehicle and his head exploding like a ripe tomato when it hits the road with a dull squelsh.

Invigorating.

My only gripe about the law here in I-dee-ho is that automobile drivers are required to wear seat belts (or risk the massive $10 fine) but motorcyclists arent required to wear helmets. Makes no sense to me.

The other thing that kinda irks me is that they recently passed a statute that if an officer notices you not wearing a seat belt, thats a reason to pull you over. I dont mind wearing mine, they do save lives.

We also don't have a helmet law in MN. The fine for no seatbelt here is about $200 I believe as they consider it a moving violation. You can also get pulled over here strictly for no seatbelt.

I never ever drive without a seatbelt for myself and any passengers I may have, however, it's my business not the governments.

I dunno why our fine is so low, it's really not that much of a deterrent.

No... people who are too fucking stupid to properly restrain their children in vehicles, without a law telling them to do it, is bullshit.

People who are too fucking stupid to WEAR seatbelts in cars, without a law telling them to do it, is bullshit.

That was a very good PSA.

That doesn't make the law 'bullshit', Dick. But I agree that it's moronic not to make school buses safer for kids to ride in (seats should be redesigned to accommodate lap and shoulder restraints, or better yet, 5-point restraints).
