EARLIMART, Calif. -- Investigators say a 35-year-old California man who died at a hospital on Sunday was killed by a rooster.

Jose Luis Ochoa was stabbed by a knife attached to the leg of a fighting rooster, the Kern County coroner's office said Friday.

Officials said an autopsy determined Ochoa died as a result of a stab wound to the calf, and the death was ruled accidental.

The coroner did not specify exactly how the calf wound killed Ochoa, whether it was excessive bleeding, infection or something else.

Investigators said it was not known if a cockfight was under way at the time of the accident.

That was no accident, the rooster knifed that guy on purpose! hah

Seems Ochoa got what goes around, comes around!

Tonight on Dateline. Cocks fight back!

That's too funny on so many levels. Death by cock. From a stab wound. To the calf. From the knife HE put on the rooster.

Well played, Darwin. Well played.

I think justice was already done. With interest.

poor elephants are driven berserk by loss of habitat.

At least one man was killed amid widespread panic when two wild elephants went on a three-hour rampage across a city in southern Indian.

The raging elephants left a trail of destruction across a suburb of the city of Mysore, in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, after they wandered in from a nearby forest.

One man, a 55-year-old security guard from the Bamboo Bazaar district, was trampled to death after he came out of his house to see what was going on.

When I looked at the pictures of the elephant(s) crashing through town, I couldn't help but think of Henry Mancini's "Baby Elephant Walk."

The kids are grown and it's payback time!

I have a memory of being very small & standing on top of my dad's feet as he held my little hands & walked me around the house to this tune playing in the background. It's been a lifetime since I've thought about this. I'm calling my Dad just to say I love you. Thanks Tiki!

PUTNAM LAKE, N.Y. – A black mamba, widely considered the world's most poisonous snake, was suspected in the death of a woman who kept 75 snakes as pets at her suburban New York home, authorities said on Thursday.

Aleta Stacey, 56, was found dead in her home in Putnam Lake, New York on Tuesday by her live-in boyfriend when he returned home from work, a spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.

Police were called to the home, about 65 miles from New York City, and discovered approximately 75 snakes in glass aquariums and acrylic snake pens.

Stacey's boyfriend, Vito Caputo, 46, told investigators that he discovered locks open on an enclosure that housed a 5-foot long African black mamba, indicating Stacey was handling the snake and it may have bitten her.

"Possible snake bite wounds on one of her forearms" were found on Stacey's body, according to a statement by the sheriff's office.

Authorities did not rule out foul play in Stacey's demise. They were awaiting the autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

The black mamba is considered the world's most deadly snake, according to the National Geographic Society. Its bite kills nearly 100 percent of victims unless they are immediately treated with an antivenin. Untreated, victims typically die within 20 minutes.

The black mamba and the rest of the snakes - some of them venomous - were turned over to the Bronx Zoo, at the direction of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

A man out on a hike with his wife in Yellowstone National Park's backcountry was killed by a female grizzly bear after the couple apparently surprised the bear and its cubs Wednesday, park officials said.

The attack was the first fatal bear mauling in the park since 1986.

"In an apparent attempt to defend a perceived threat to her cubs, the bear attacked and fatally wounded the man," the park stated in a statement. "Another group of hikers nearby heard the victim's wife crying out for help, and used a cell phone to call 911."

Investigators have been interviewing the woman about the bear attack, which took place on the Wapiti Lake Trail, close to Canyon Village and near the middle of the park, park spokesman Al Nash said. Park officials haven't taken any action against the bear, he said.

"This is complicated because of where this has occurred," Nash said. "It is in the backcountry of the park, and we have access challenges and limited communication."

Park officials were working to clear the area of other hikers. All trails and backcountry campsites in the area have been closed and a warning sign has been posted on the trailhead.

Nash said authorities aren't prepared to release the man's name, age or hometown. He said more details probably won't be released until Thursday, after the man's family is notified.

A WOMAN has been eaten by a lion after it escaped from a game reserve in Kenya.
Martha Nduta was said to have been attacked in her own home, and dragged from the property on Friday.

Officials, who searched the area in the Nyahururu district for her, found only a human skull and a few scraps of bone.

Relatives identified the tragic 58-year-old's body from the remains of her ripped clothes and a shoe found at the scene.

Francio Nyamatari, Laikipia West police chief, said Kenya Wildlife Service rangers are now hunting the male lion as panic-stricken villagers fear it may strike again.

It is believed the rogue animal escaped through a broken fence at the private Laikipia Nature Conservancy before entering a nearby village, 110 miles north of Nairobi.

The reserve, which works to ensure the protection of wildlife, is a huge site surrounded by an electric fence to keep dangerous animals inside.

But local reports suggest part of the barrier had recently been destroyed by elephants.

damn shame it had to be killed. their habitat is being reduced, it is stressed, it needs to hunt.

KOLKATA, India — A leopard that mauled 11 people in a fierce showdown with Indian villagers has died of knife wounds after being captured.

The snarling adult, male leopard leapt at locals and forest officials as they tried to drive it into a wildlife sanctuary in West Bengal state.

Forest official Dharma Dev Rai says villagers used knives, stones and batons to beat back the cat. It injured six villagers, a policeman and four forest guards before being hit with a tranquilizer gun Tuesday.

A wild leopard which mauled 11 people after wandering into a village in deepest India has died from injuries sustained during the attack.

The fully grown beast savaged several policemen and forest rangers, as well as villagers, during its rampage in a densely populated district near Siliguri in West Bengal yesterday.

The leopard was eventually tranquilized, tied up and taken to a veterinary clinic, where it later died.

A forestry department official said the animal had suffered multiple 'external injuries' as the police had used batons and knives to save their colleagues.

ANCHORAGE DAILY NEWS

A grizzly bear sow with a cub attacked a group of teenagers on a month-long survival-skills course Saturday night in the Talkeetna Mountains, causing severe injuries to two of the hikers, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The bear pounced as the seven hikers were crossing a creek about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said.

Two of the teenagers suffered life-threatening injuries, and the other five were also injured, Peters said.

Troopers and Alaska Air National Guard rescuers eventually evacuated the group, Peters said.

The hikers were all between 16 and 18 years old, and were participating in a National Outdoor Leadership School course, Peters said.

The group was on the 24th day of a 30-day backpacking trip, school spokesman Bruce Palmer said by phone from Wyoming. It was the group's first day unaccompanied by adult instructors, Palmer said.

"For the last bit of the course, we would have them travel as a student group without the instructors, utilizing the skills that they've learned over time," Palmer said.

The mauling occurred deep in the wilderness north of Talkeetna. Troopers said it was about 34 miles east of Mile 143 of the Parks Highway. The Byers Lake campground in Denali State Park is at Mile 147.

The seven group members were in a line as they crossed the creek, Palmer said. The first hiker had apparently made it out of the water and was out of sight of the others when he began screaming, Palmer said.

The grizzly mauled the teen, attacked another group member, then returned to the first victim, Palmer said.
