I'm not a basketball fan.

It's a personal connection with the U of A athletic department prompting my enthusiasm.

Let's just say I won't be bringing this up when referencing my prognosticating prowess.

I entered 2 pools and lost a total of $30.

Maybe I'll see you in Miami?

Sally can host a pool party for all of us.

MS, I saw this & thought of you. Smiley_emoticons_smile

This is an awesome gesture & a wonderful show of good sportsmanship.

New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera is on a farewell tour across the majors and the Minnesota Twins will be happy to see him go.

The future first-ballot Hall of Famer is making his final trip to opposing ballparks across the country this summer, thanking players, coaches and members of the opposing teams' staff with whom he has interacted over his 19-year career.

The Yankees are in Minnesota for the final time this season, and the Twins honored Rivera before their game with a souvenier chair made out of broken bats caused by Rivera's pitches.

"I was expecting someone to do something like that with broken bats, but that was, that was awesome," Rivera said. "That was great. That was wonderful. Made me laugh a lot."

Behold, the "Chair of Broken Dreams":

Mariano is from Panama, where my first wife was from.

Panama has a rich history of players that have made it to the major leagues, with Rivera being a sure-fire Hall of Famer.

Rod Carew, HOF, Omar Moreno, Manny Sanguillen, Roberto Kelly, Carlos Lee, etc., all hail from there.

I actually played baseball for an American team in 1991 made up of players from the military and the Panama Canal Commission.

We played against Panamanians in their main stadium in downtown Panama City, and I pitched from the same mound as Rivera.

Pretty cool.

BTW, my Twins suck ass and will never be competitive with the Yankees. They own us and it's getting incredibly old.

Thanks for posting!

Don't the Twins have real owner problems? Seems like I remember some stuff about mismanagement being one of their failings and keeping quality players from going there.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

I wish it were an ownership thing.

The Pohlads own the franchise, and I think they're among the 5 richest owners in baseball.

The taxpayers just built this amazing stadium right downtown, and revenues jumped through the roof.

However, we still won't spend money on quality players and our management staff (front office & field staff) is loaded with buffoons.

Fun times.

As with any team where age is a factor, injuries (or not becoming injured) may be the biggest wildcard of all this season for the Lakers.

I was way off on my prediction of how Howard's addition to The Lakers would elevate the league.

You were right about the wildcard factor, MS.

Ah well, Lakers have Gasol and there's talk of snagging back Odom. Interested to see what next season's roster is going to look like.

I've never been a Dwight Howard guy.

He wants to be the Alpha Dog on his team, even though his offensive skills are slightly above average at best.

He's what I like to refer to as a 'stat stuffing' player, but not a winner

I personally believe the Lakers wil be no worse without him..

It's just that it was considered such a coup to nab Howard and Nash. But, yeah, injury and age were known risk factors and you never can really know how players are gonna mesh on the court.

Ah well, we'll bounce back.

Phil Jackson seems to share your opinion of Howard, btw. He made a statement about how Gasol is a better fit anyway and then wished Howard good look with the Astros. Smiley_emoticons_razz

CN: I've always liked The Jazz too.

Derek Jeter has announced this will be his final season in MLB.

Always seemed like a class act to me (kept himself off the police blotter) and was the mainstay of the most recent Yankee machine.

He'd get booed when he'd play here (or anywhere for that matter) and I'd just shake my head at the nimrods doing the booing.

Hope he stays healthy and has a great season.
