the facts of life & birds and bees~~

have you had to deal with this with your kids?
i raised 3 sons. i had to tell them everything. in a matter-of-fact manner.
i remember telling them about pubic hair and hormones.
it was not easy to keep from embarrassing them. young teens are easily embarrassed. especially when antique mom tries to tell them anything remotely sexual. daughters must be easier.
when the youngest went off to college i bought him a big supply of condoms and secreted them in his luggage so he wouldn't freak out. i didn't want to think about it. but i did.
have you done this yet? if not, when the time comes will you wimp out? hah

I'm a big believer in open communication--I started talking with my kids about sex when they were probably 7, lol. Seriously. I want my kids to be informed so I talk to them about pretty much every subject (sometimes I get the "gross Mom...", lol). But they WILL be informed, they'll learn it from me and they'll know all about protection, birth control etc. On the plus side, my kids (so far) tell me everything too. They're hitting puberty now and without going in to details, they've told me some stuff that's going on with them and I'm really happy that they feel comfortable talking with me about it. I never would have talked with my parents about similar issues.

I think if you start early, it makes the later conversations easier.

I have a memory of telling my Mom I didn't need to know ANY of that stuff because I wasn't going to marry & have babies, I only wanted horses. She feared for my femininity after that & sent me to "charm school". Hahaha, that's where everything changed.

I can still remember the conversation with my mom. I was about 10. OK, this was before tampons and stick on pads..so she told me I'd be wearing "a belt and a napkin". And no one would know. Now, without benefit of visual aids, I was very literal in my thinking..and had a mental picture of what I knew a belt and napkin to look like. And was curious as to how no one would know!!Smiley_emoticons_stumm

And she negleted to mention the baby part..or that I would be cursed for the next 40 or so years!! Shit.

I think a good porn flick might work. I remember Linda Lovelace like it was just yesterday.
