Religious Arguing/News here---->
#61
Since you're such a fan of the dictionary Dick:

op·pose
   [uh-pohz]

1.to act against or provide resistance to; combat.
2.to stand in the way of; hinder; obstruct.
3.to set as an opponent or adversary.
4.to be hostile or adverse to, as in opinion: to oppose a resolution in a debate.
5.to set as an obstacle or hindrance.

It's a verb (which by definition predicates or expresses action), moron.

Being an atheist requires no action. It is simply a belief that something does not exist. It's not opposing; it's failing to acknowledge.

By your logic, I bet you'd define "apathy" as opposing too...

Thank you Arigold.

You are obviously infinitely more patient than I am.

There was a poll recently that said a majority of Americans would rather have a Muslim extremist as a dinner guest than an Atheist because at least the Muslim has faith and "believes in something".

Man this is brilliant, so you actually believe that argueing a postion leaves it as a non action?

Do you see how stupid this is? If being a christian and speaking your belief is considered "shoving your faith at others" an obvious action then on the same level being an atheist and speaking your dis belief would also by all reasonable thinking would be shoving your dis belif at people also an obvious action.

Both of them in action and both of them opposed to the other.

when argued in the same room neither are inert, and the atheist is in opposition to a God they deny.

The exchange satisfies the requirements for the use of the word "oppose".

sorry I can't agree with you.

It would make me as stupid as you.

Not at my table. That's just fucking redonkulous.

Believing that the world was created by some being with super powers, like a giant Harry Potter in the sky, is absolutely ridiculous.

If somebody were to honestly tell you that they believed in Zeus and Hera and all the Greek Gods, you'd laugh at them and say that they were crazy.

Why is it, then, that when somebody says that they believe in god (basically an amalgamation of the Greek Gods), they aren't laughed at either?

Science has shown that the Big Bang could have easily, and most logically, created the Universe, but, instead, people choose to think that there's some fucking wizard who just snapped his fingers and made something. People truly believe that the type of shit that happens on Bewitched is the way that the world was created.

....and yet atheists are the crazy ones?

Sorry, god is not Samantha Stevens.

More pure and unadulterated horseshit.

I do not oppose something I don't believe exists, I don't oppose god anymore than I oppose father christmas, the tooth fairy or the easter bunny.

Lacking belief is a completely passive act, having belief is completely active.

I agree with that until you argue it, then it is no longer passive.

So by your logic anything that stands to the negative side of a line is passive?

and anything that stands to a positive side of a line is active?

That's foolishness.

You fail to acknowledge that being an atheist is not a religion. It's not a club, it doesn't have a 'mission statement', there is no defined goal or purpose. It is a simple and singular belief that something does not exist.

If you tell me that you believe in ghosts and I tell you that's crazy, (as their is no scientific proof to justify/support it) does that mean I "oppose" ghosts?

No, it just means I choose not to acknowledge its/their existence. I do not believe in ghosts. You're free to believe all you wish. I'm not stopping you. You and Patrick Swayze are free to make all the imaginary pots you want.

If you ask if I like pizza and I tell you "no", I'm opposing it. You're still welcome to eat it and enjoy it. I'm not stopping you. I just CHOOSE to not eat any myself.

I think you should go take a class in logic and reason.

Take your dictionary with you too.

I am not arguing anything, you believe in god I don't there is no argument.

I also like how you classify Atheism with the negative side and belief with the positive side, as though Atheism is an inherently negative thing.

Lacking belief is not an inherently negative thing.

You seem to be trying to suggest that I can't be an Atheist if I talk about it which is more unadulterated horseshit.

I know you would love me to shut up about it but why the fuck should I dick?

I love it when people try to suggest that Atheism is a religion.

I always say to Christians:-

Do you believe in god?
"Yes"
Do you believe in allah?
"No"
So if Atheism is a religion that means you have TWO religions, one that believes in god and one that doesn't believe in allah yes?
