The investigation into the disappearance of a Fairfield woman enters a new phase.
Indiana State Police said remains found in Franklin County, Indiana on Sunday are those of 21-year-old Katelyn Markham.

The location where the remains were found is about 40 minutes drive from her condo.

Markham was reported missing in August of 2011.

Since her disappearance, thousands of people have spent countless hours looking for Markham.

One of those groups was Texas Equusearch.

"It's what I consider to be the worst case of hide and go seek that you could ever play. How could one or two individuals know where they put somebody but 500 to 1000 people can't find that one piece? So it's very difficult. It's very taxing," said David Rader, Director of the Ohio Chapter of Texas Equusearch.

Thanks for the information, tlynne.

Hoping Katelyn's remains and/or location give LE some evidence to make an arrest.

Im so...ugh...Poor girl.
I still think her boyfriend had something to do with her death.
I pray this reveals some evidence.
You are missed...RIP Lady Cop

I am saddened by Katelyn's death, but I am glad that her remains were found. I am especially glad that her remains were found in Indiana. The Indiana State Police are now on the case and will be re-interviewing friends and family.

I hope that the ISP will take a good hard look at the inconsistencies in John Carter's statements, 911 call and the general timeline. In my opinion he is the only viable suspect (I put him at 99% with 1% chance that this was a random crime) but I think the Fairfield police didn't want to go all out on this case as there was a minute chance that Katelyn had left on her own.

Rest in Peace Katelyn.

Agree that Carter's statements and actions are suspicious.

Latest reports indicate that LE is searching for clues associated with the location and condition of Katelyn's remains.

There was a "Celebration of Life" event in honor of her memory on Saturday. John Carter attended, but declined interviews. Didn't realize that Katelyn's father has established a local chapter of Equusearch; admirable way to deal with his grief and memorialize Katelyn.

Meanwhile, there's a defense attorney pushing a theory that Katelyn was the victim of a serial killer and that her disappearance/death could be linked to the disappearance of Lauren Spierer. Very little compelling evidence to support his theory in the article, imo. Here's the article, along with a response from John Carter:

Update by WCPO.com on Katelyn Markham Fairfield, Ohio, results from Cedar Grove, Indiana. 8th August 2013.

Katelyn Markham's death is ruled a homicide, Franklin County Coroner Wanda Lee declared Katelyn Markham's manner of death a homicide, she could not determine the exact cause of death.

At the link below is an interview with David Markham the Indiana State Police gave Markham, Katelyn's father a polygraph which lasted several hours, (I thought that was very odd several hours IMO} Markham is not Katelyn's biological dad. It is good to know that the Indiana State Police are still questioning people.

Taken from WCPO 9 News 25th August 2013. Such a nice funeral! she loved bright colours. Katelyn Markham's funeral: Family asks visitors to wear bright clothes for a bright soul

FAIRFIELD, Ohio – Over two years after her disappearance, Katelyn Markham's family and friends finally had a chance to say goodbye.

Markham's funeral was held Sunday at Fairfield Senior High School. The family chose that location because they expected a large turn out for the memorial of the young woman who disappeared from her Fairfield residence in August 2011.

Markham’s casket stood high on the stage in the school’s auditorium where the visitation and funeral were held. Next to the casket were samples of the artwork she had created. She loved art.

Her art was such an important part of her life that family and friends wore bright colored clothing to the service, stating Katelyn was a bright and colorful young woman. They said it would be the best way to honor her.

Going to necropost in this thread, as there is some "new" information.

The Katelyn Markham murder investigation was taken over by the Butler Co. sheriffs office in December 2015. The Sheriffs office stated that they now have one "person of interest" in the case. The announcement was in November 2016. They have not named the POI, as they don't feel they have enough evidence to convict. They are asking for anyone who may know anything to come forward.

Watch

I pray that they get that one piece they need to hang the murdering scum-sucker out to dry.
