Katelyn Markham, 22. Ohio - missing/murdered
#41
If she answered the door to an intruder what are the chances that she would have her cell phone with her and you would see some signs of a struggle of some sort.

Why has the bring Katelyn home page vanished? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Missing-B...608973942.

Twilight Hi.............I noticed someone complained about posts being deleted. They didn't want to hear anything negative about the boyfriend.

Twilight O.K. thanks it's back up again. Are you from down around Fairfield area? There has to be someone who saw Katelyn sometime Saturday for by her boyfriend.

There are so many little things that don't add up here. The picture sent from her phone is a big one that sticks out to me. JC said it was a picture of a picture but later said it was a picture of her that was taken by a co-worker. On the Facebook page the owner commented 6 hours ago:
"Missing! Bring Katelyn Markham Home the picture that john received was a picture of a picture that was at her house. and yes, the guy has been investigated. -megs♥ "

Also the bit about burning documents. JC said he was burning documents after he left her house, but he also said that he was watching TV with a friend. Interesting about the thunderstorms that just happened to hit the area around the same time she went missing. How was he burning documents when it was raining outside? In some places he says he was burning "documents" while, in others, it is "the document." Why did the documents need to be burned in the first place?

Another brief interview with JC. In this one he just seems sad, doesn't say much.

Fiancé Of Missing Fairfield Woman Speaks Out
Katelyn Markham Missing For Almost 2 Weeks
POSTED: 10:20 pm EDT August 24, 2011
UPDATED: 7:19 am EDT August 25, 2011

"John Carter, 23, said he's doing whatever he can to help the investigation, even if he feels as if the community is placing the blame on him.

"People are going to say what they're going to say. You can't stop them," Carter said.

Carter said he may not be able to stop the comments being made after his girlfriend of six years disappeared, but he can make sure that people know how he feels.

"I'm not going to acknowledge the ridiculous things that people are saying because I know me. They don't know me, but I know myself. I'd never hurt Katelyn in a million years," Carter said."

The reason I like to transcribe the interviews is that the news media likes their "sound bites" and they don't always get the whole story when they print the interview under the video.

WLWT John Carter interview 24 Aug 2011

Stephanie Stone: "Fairfield police didn't take much when they searched Katelyn's fiance's house, tonight he says he gave consent, he's doing whatever he can to help even though he feels as if the entire community is pointing fingers and placing blame on him."

Carter: "People are gonna say what they're gonna say, you can't stop 'em."

Stone: "Twenty-three year old John Carter may not be able to stop the comments, but he can certainly make sure that people know how he feels."

Carter: "I'm not gonna acknowledge, um, the ridiculous things that people are saying because I know, (clears throat) I mean, nobody's gonna know about me. They don't know me, and, uh, I know me. I know that I would never hurt Katelyn ever in a million years."

Stone: "Katelyn Markham, his fiance and girlfriend of six years flat-out disappeared nearly two weeks ago. Since then, there have been search parties, a vigil, and an investigation. Fairfield police have little evidence and no suspects."

Carter: "That's pretty much it. There's, there's nothing. And it's...horrific."

Stone: "Carter was the last person to see her, they were at her home on Dorshire Drive. He says he left before midnight. But aside from a text he received from her a short time later, no one has seen or heard from Katelyn. Carter felt the animosity towards him when he was confronted while passing-out fliers."

Carter: "I guess he didn't know who I was and he was just like, 'I heard the boyfriend did it.' And just, I was just like, 'I'm the boyfriend (Left hand points at his chest) I would never do anything to hurt her."

Stone: "And while the days without Katelyn continue, he finds comfort in her cat, Ramsey, and her artwork.

Bolding mine. If you were casually watching, you might miss that slip. He actually says "no one's gonna know about me". Maybe he meant, "no one knows me" but that is not what he said.

JC also uses hyperbole in his statements about Katelyn missing. In the first interview he says "I'm terrified, I'm absolutely terrified." (This is in response to the reporter stating, 'It must be pretty scary right now.')

At that time Katelyn had been missing for 5 days. What was he terrified about? Was he terrified about what had happened to Katelyn? Or was he terrified about getting caught?

In the latest interview he says "And it's...horrific."

What is horrific? The fact that Katelyn is missing? Most people would use the word horrific to describe torture, genocide, or a ghastly murder scene. I understand that loved ones are scared, concerned, questioning-but horrific is a power word, usually reserved for situations that have no other adjectives to describe them. If she was found murdered, then I could understand the use of horrific, maybe he is speaking from his knowledge of her death.

According to the facebook pages, there have been numerous searches conducted by LE, friends, family and volunteers within a 5 mile radius of her townhouse.

There are six state parks and wildlife areas located within 45 miles of Katelyn's home. Rush Run wildlife area is the closest at 20 miles. It is 1174 acres (half of which is wooded) with a 54 acre lake. It is primarily used for hunting and fishing with a few nature trails. There are no camping sites, electricity or other amenities.

On any given night/early morning in August, the chances of anyone being out there are practically nil.

Nancy Grace is airing the case tonight. While I hate her interviewing tactics (it's all about her dontchaknow) I am hoping she will have some news on the case.

Thanks Cheyne, once again for the transcript! I noticed something odd about the "nobody knows me statement" but couldn't quite grasp what it was until I read the transcript. It could be that he is trying really hard to sound educated, and he is changing his wording from his normal speak to a more formal usage of the language. But it could also be an unconscious admission of the truth.

We still don't know anything about him. Did he finish high school, go to college? He uses some words that give me the impression that he is highly intelligent, but not necessarily formally educated to accommodate his level of intelligence. Case in point, the use of the words "terrified" and "horrific", is he just using them to sound more sophisticated and/or educated?

There are a lot of rangers in the "autism spectrum" and "personality disorders" that have this type of profile.

For instance from Wikipedia, because it is easy:
Asperger syndrome or Asperger's syndrome or Asperger disorder (play /ˈɑspərɡərz/[1] or /ˈæspərɡərz/[2]) is an autism spectrum disorder that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. It differs from other autism spectrum disorders by its relative preservation of linguistic and cognitive development. Although not required for diagnosis, physical clumsiness and atypical use of language are frequently reported.[3][4]

I once experienced a Thanksgiving dinner at an ex-in law's house where a person diagnosed with Asperger syndrome got so agitated by the dinner conversation around sociology-political topics that he started a fight and knocked over the dining room table. The mashed potatoes ended up stuck to the ceiling. :O Major damage was done to the precious china. 21

Cheyne,

I like how you transcribe the interviews! I'ts very helpful!

He has a strange way of expressing himself and this interview on the Sofa with him bothers me, damn he doesn't look distraught nothing - my God she has been missing 2 weeks now man - where are the tears?

If you recall he said "she deserved to be taken care of" well, what if he was thinking he deserved to be taken care of.
Did he get a bit bent out of shape maybe he felt she was mistreating him not baby babying him enough, maybe he thought in his head (she's always telling me what to do) things piled up inside his head and I read she was to visit with his parents & him Saturday night to discuss moving to Colorado but, Katelyn was too tired that was maybe the last straw and he got pissed off. I don't think for a minute anyone at the Church Festival had a thing to do with this poor girl's disappearance! IMO

Harvest Moon, LOL I think your on to something forgive me for laughing for a moment but, this Asperger syndrome is no laughing matter, we may discover this fellow does have a pattern of getting agitated over little or nothing.

Please laugh away...it was an ex-in-law situation, that now deserves laughing about. During the encounter, the damn "china" was more important than the fact that some of us felt physically threatened. You know, those blue-blooded, "daughters of the Revolution", still living Connecticut, right?
