story starting to get a little clearer. i doubt she'll hurt him.

Port Orange investigators are looking for a woman they say may have snatched her grandson from his aunt's house in the Sunset Cove subdivision, police said.

Capt. Frank Surmaczewicz said the youngster -- 5-year-old Elijah Holbin-Hudson -- was likely taken by his maternal grandmother, 49-year-old Laurine Sue Arnold. The latter, whom police have not been able to contact, has a home in Spring Hill, Surmaczewicz said.

Police said Michigan authorities, through the Florida Department of Children & Families, placed Elijah in his aunt's custody. Elijah is initially from Michigan, police said.

Detectives believe Arnold is driving a black 1994 Plymouth, Florida license plate number AJV-N60.

Anyone with information is asked to call Port Orange police, 386-756-7400.

The boy's aunt called police Monday after Arnold showed up to visit with him. Investigators have not determined why Arnold is not supposed to have contact with her grandson, Surmaczewicz said. because she's a space cadet? post 4

The woman may have entered the home through an unlocked door Tuesday, Surmaczewicz said. A neighbor reported seeing a car in the area that matched the description of Arnold's black Plymouth Duster.

The Florida license plate on the car is AJV N60.

An Amber Alert was not issued because there is no direct evidence showing an abduction and/or kidnapping occurred, Surmaczewicz said.

No other details about the case have been released.

Anyone with information can contact the Port Orange Police Department at 386-756-7400.

Police said the back door of the Port Orange home was unsecured.

“Someone would have had to climb over fence then gone through the rear door of the residence in order to get the little 5-year-old and then leave the residence,” Surmaczewicz said.

Detectives said Elijah’s aunt also believes her sister took him.

“I think the mere fact that he is a family member and the maternal grandmother believes that the child would be better off with her than in the current whereabouts,” Surmaczewicz said.

Hummm...Then, what do you call a child being "snatched" from the home? family or not. That child was not in the grandmother's care.

i said she was a nutjob! oh brother. florida is full of nuts.
well she'll get bagged, that old heap of a car stands out.

A woman suspected of kidnapping her grandson from a Port Orange home earlier his week could be dangerous, Port Orange police say.

Laurine Sue Arnold, 49, of Spring Hill, is said to be a "sovereign citizen" and could be uncooperative with law enforcement if confronted. She is also wanted out of Hernando County for failing to appear on a resisting without violence charge.

good news.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- A 5-year-old boy, who went missing in Port Orange earlier this week, has been found with his grandmother, according to police. Authorities said the grandmother was arrested on an open warrant.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement said at about 12:15 pm agents found Elijah Holbin-Hudson with his grandmother 50-year-old Laurine Sue Arnold. The two went missing on Tuesday in Port Orange.

Laurine Sue Arnold was arrested on an open warrant out of Pinellas County, according to agents.

The two were recovered at Hare Krishna Temple, located on NW 112th Avenue in Alachua, Fla.

The child will be placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families while the grandmother is transported to the Alachua County Jail, according to officials.

Port Orange Police Department detectives said they are in the process of preparing arrest affidavits for kidnapping and interference with custody charges. They were assisted in the investigation by FDLE, the State Attorney’s Office, and DCF officials.
