Why is it acceptable to show all manner of a violent death, some that include rape, on television, yet, the vision of bared breasts send people into a tizzy?

I have never understood American national television.

The FCC are crazy.

You also have the biggest porno industry in the world yet you still sometimes have a playground attitude towards sexual matters.

I think after a certain time say 11pm it should not be such a big deal. I watch the Canadian station and they have chicks showing their tits all the time. Its all about context and situation.

On television in the UK there is a nine p.m watershed, people know that TV programs shown after nine p.m may contain some adult content.

Most national channels also have the announcer issue warnings before a certain program or film is shown i.e "the following program contains strong language, scenes of sex and violence" or whatever.

I agree that it is strange that violence is deemed more acceptable than nudity or language on TV, surely a pair of tits is more acceptable than a scene of someone being shot in the head?

I think that violence is less real to most people than sex.

I don't necessarily think my kids are going to go out and shoot someone in the head because they watch a violent show but if they're exposed to sex or promiscuity on t.v. at an early age, would they be more inclined to experiment earlier...? *shrugs* I don't know. Violence falls under the "it won't happen to me" category.

I don't agree with the programming, I'm just offering one possible explanation.

Maybe a slight OT...but why are these same people (I am sure) and all the self rightious Christians all in a Tizzy because Chaz Bono is going to be on Dancing with the Stars? Dancing with a woman? Yet no one is complaining because Carson whatshisname from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy is also on..but he is also dancing with a woman. WTF.

IMO: Violence & or nudity being viewed by young impressionable audances may be what is wrong with many of the youth of today. Seeing excessive violence on the screen, video games, etc. causes them by knee jerk impulse to think nothing of whacking their peers over the head with an object, punching them in the face, or smashing them into a wall. "They" never seem to get that hurt on the screen, or game, therefore the young folk do not really get to see the real aftermath broken bones, bloody gashes, knocked out teeth, consequences of violence that occurs in RL.
Same thing for viewing too much nudity. Many "young" Girls seem to flash their tits at the drop of a hat, it's no big deal to them. Many young boys seem to drop their paints at the drop of a hat as well.
It seems "old time morals" to many, have gone awry!
True, morals vary by individuals, so . . . . .

I don't agree. Playing Grand Theft Auto and seeing a set of tits on TV is not going to make a normal kid go ape shit. Kids that do what you described have much deeper issues and it probally starts with the parents.
