FORT BRAGG (WTVD) -- Military Police are investigating the disappearance of about 14,000 rounds of ammunition at Fort Bragg.

The ammo went missing from the 82nd Airborne Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team sometime overnight on Tuesday, according to Staff Sgt. Joshua Ford.

The 1BCT, which consists of about 3,500 people, was placed on lockdown for a few hours on Wednesday while military police searched for the ammnition.

So far, it has not been found.

The ammo is typically stored in an above-ground depot, and in a secure area. Specially-trained handlers are responsible for its safekeeping.

Officials say any time ammnition goes missing, there is concern, and they are taking this incident seriously.

But, they add, there is no reason at this point to believe the ammo was taken intentionally.

The amunition that was taken can be used in an M4 or M16 assault rifle.

That is an awful lot of ammo to misplace....Hopefully it will be accounted for soon.

Looks like the Turkey season has opened up again and the hunters are getting a bit more .... well, motivated perhaps.

That is sloppy as hell. The Army is getting slack. Remember a Humvee was stolen from Ft. Gordon last week. I think something else was missing, too. I know the military has been on high alert because of the anniversary of 9/11, so this is really bad form.

In the last two months, they have arrested a Marine and an Army soldier with bomb making materials (ammonium nitrate). Sorry Mo, both Muslim.

We would stop blaming stuff on the Middle East if they would stop trying to infiltrate us. Keep your jihad at the hizzy...

I'd rather see a focus on the missing/wasted millions of dollars in aid provided to Afghanistan.
Of the millions of sperm injected into your mother's pussy, you were the quickest?

You are no longer in the womb, friend. The competition is tougher out here.

You can't throw good money after bad. Every time we build it, they blow it up.

And the contractors are raping the taxpayers as usual. If there were a chance I would end up with my head cut off, I would charge a shitload just to step foot over there, too.

Might as well waste the money abroad as feed the lazy fuckers here so they have time to reproduce.

Don't forget Libya, Iraq, Iran, and Haiti (I know Haiti is not in the middle east, but it is a prime example of wasted foreign aid).

So you hate Haiti and don't care if they starve? hahaha

If you want to get technical, I hate the Haitian Government, who took our money and left their people in squalor. And let's not forget the accusations made against Americans that were volunteering over there, you know, the kidnap and murder charges? It's all bullshit to me.

I am really pretty shocked that the military doesn't have better control over these things. It is probably not a coincidence that hunting seasoning is opening here in NC. If we knew what kind of ammo it was we could probably find somebody selling it on Craig's List.

.223 for M16.

Varmint rounds.

Or for shooting cans.

Africans, Mexicans, Canadians, Republicans . . .

I know, but how could I resist?

The Marines have a new rifle now they are testing in Afghanistan that also takes a 5.56mm round like the M16s.

I just wonder how many cases of ammo it takes to make 14,000 rounds. Whomever was in charge of that armory is FUCKED.

Which do you think? Article 15 or an actual court Martial?

From the news story:
"they add, there is no reason at this point to believe the ammo was taken intentionally."

Just how does one 'unintentionally' take 14000 rounds of ammo anyway?

For that particular ammo, hubby couldn't remember the exact number but says that it is around 940 rounds per ammo can. There is 2 ammo cans per case, so between 7 to 8 cases. He went on to tell me how military ammo is packed differently than civilian ammo, but things got a bit fuzzy at that point.

He also said that 14000 rounds is not that much for a division. He thinks that someone forgot to do the paperwork for 1 training session, maybe 2.
