BELLEVUE, Washington —

Bellevue police are searching for a 2-year-old boy who disappeared Sunday after his mother left him in a car while she went to get gas, the Bellevue Police Department said.

Police said the mother's car ran out of gas in the 2400 block of 112th Avenue Northeast. She took her 4-year-old with her to get gas and left the 2-year-old in the car. About two hours later, she returned to the car and the boy was gone.

From Bellevue police:

The child, Sky Metalwala, is ½ Indian and ½ white, brown eyes, dark buzz cut hair, with a dark green hooded sweatshirt, with blue and gray striped Carter pants.

A reverse 9-1-1 call has been placed out in the area where the child was last seen. King County Search and Rescue tracking dogs are on scene searching for the child. If anyone finds or sees a child matching this description, please call 9-1-1 immediately.

Clyde hill is a really rich area of town, one of the richest. We can hope and pray that some good samaritan took that child and will return it. It looks by way of google map that it was near the 520 and 405 freeway interchange, i do not know if that may have been what would have caused a delay in getting to and from the car if she was walking. But why would you leave the child!

The mother later told police the boy was in his car seat when she left and she had locked the driver's side door, but the other doors were not locked.

Investigators say the car seat was still in the car and there are no forced signs of entry.

“We don’t know much, other than that the child is still missing,” Officer Carla Iafrate, spokeswoman for the Bellevue Police Department, said about 1:50 p.m. Sunday. “I don’t know if the child got out on his own. I don’t know if the car was locked or not locked. We don’ t have very much information.”

The child has brown eyes, dark buzz cut hair and was wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt and blue and gray striped pants.

Iafrate said a detective is working with the mother, who is from Redmond.

Officers and King County Search & Rescue crews have been fanning out in grid patterns from the point where the child was last seen. They are searching through the woods.

it's dusk out there now.

SEARCH SUSPENDED FOR THE NIGHT???

CNN
About 50 people, including police with tracking dogs, fanned out around the area Sunday to try to find the boy, said Carla Iafrate, a spokeswoman for Bellevue police. The search was suspended as night fell, she said.

Iafrate said the parents of the boy are cooperating.

God dammit.

Doesn't everybody have a cellphone they can use to call for gas?

Who leaves a kid alone in a care EVER? Who does that? I didn't even let my middle schoolers stay in the car.

This stuff makes me angry. Don't people love their kids anymore?

i guess we know where this is going. stupid lying bitch.

A spokesman for the boy's father said parents are going through a divorce and he hasn't seen his child in months. Police say he is cooperating with them.

So aside from being an imbecile, she also has poor fashion sense. Smiley_emoticons_wink

I could never leave my child in a car. Ever. These cases where one child gets left but others taken, or (worst case) a parent murders one child, but not the others...it baffles me. Like, how do they choose? What makes one child more worthy than another? My kids are my life. ALL of them.

He is so cute! I feel sick to my stomach. If a good person took this child they would have took the child and wrote down plate, make and model, and went straight to the police station. Dumb ass bitch would be in jail for child endangerment. Gut tells me the bitch is lying. Who leaves a 2 year old in the car out of gas on the side of the road, for TWO hours. im not buying it! God I hope I am wrong and that they will find him alive. Can a 2 year old open a car door from the inside? It has been a long time since i had a 2 year old so i can not remember.

My gut tells me the baby was not in the car to begin with.

No way, I'm not buying what she is saying. Why would she think he would be ok in the car? Was he sleeping when she left with the other one?
Who doesn't have a cell phone is right. I'm praying for a good out come on this. I hope they give the other child to his father.

If the child safety lock on the door is not engaged, then it is very possible for a 2 year old to open the door. My grandson, at 2, can unbuckle the clips on his car seat as well, but I don't see that as being the case here.
I'm with Dick on this one, I don't think the child was in the car to begin with.

The mother would have to have a complete lack of common sense to not go to the first house she saw and say, I've run out of gas, can you call the police for me?

IMO, we're going to see that this is a case of the Mom doing anything she can to hurt her husband.

I didn't read it mentioned anywhere, but do we know if he is the father of both kids, or just the baby?

FBI is in.
mother's apt. being searched.

Officers suspended the search around 6 p.m. and had no immediate plans to continue in the morning.

"King County felt like they had done a very thorough search of a pretty wide area for the boy and were confident that he wasn't there,"

According to court records, both parents were cited in December 2009 for leaving a child unattended. An attorney tells KING-5 back then the child was left in the car for a shorter period than Sunday's case, but a passerby in the parking lot spotted the child and called police.

Court records said among other stipulations, both parents were required to complete parenting courses.

Bellevue Police would not comment on whether the parents' background was pertinent to this case, but said they are keeping all scenarios on the table.

"Right now we don't know, we can only go off what the mother told us," said Iafrate. "But we're going to search beyond that, and since we can't find the child right here in this area, we're going to be asking other questions."
