It was emotional Wednesday night for Joe Ellington, 24, the father of Tyler Dasher, 1, allegedly beaten to death by his own mother, Shelby Dasher, 21. (i don't have a photo of him yet)

There was a vigil in the wooded area next to St. Marcus Cemetery at the St. Louis City/Affton border, where Tyler`s body was found, Tuesday.

documents reveal Ellington’s parents had him declared incapacitated because he suffers from schizophrenia, cannot hold jobs and acts aggressively toward others. Ellington`s friends said his presence spoke volumes.

'All I want to ask Shelby is why was she trying to put this on Joe or somebody else,' said mourner, Renee Leisure.
Ellington`s mother, Tyler`s grandmother, Shirley Ellington, earlier told Fox 2, through tears, that a private funeral had been arranged for Tyler at St. Marcus Cemetery, right next to the place his body was found.

Mental illness has left Joe Ellington in his parents` care; away from Tyler.

Ellington`s childhood friends described him as a loving father; who had dedicated himself to taking control of his illness, for his little boy.

'He was coming back to `Joe`,' said friend, Patrick Beesley. 'To what he used to be.'

'He was doing it to see his kid,' added friend, Billy Ellington.

'He was doing it for Tyler, above everything,' Beesley said. 'That was his main reason to try to get better. He wanted to get better for his son,' Beesley said, breaking into tears.

(KSDK) - Shelby Dasher, the mother who is charged with second-degree murder of her son, Tyler Dasher, will be arraigned in St. Louis County Thursday morning.

Dasher is jailed in St. Louis County and is on suicide watch, according to a spokesperson for the jail.

So, there's no history of abuse. Friends say she adored the baby and would do anything for him. Yet...she murdered him because he wouldn't be quiet in his crib. He was 18months old, surely there have been MANY times before now that she was tired and wanted to sleep, that he wouldn't "be quiet". What makes this time so different, if there's never been abuse before?
Wondering if there could be some sort of psychological defense?

I have a 6month old (as well as two school aged children), and looking at this baby's photo, imagining that his MOTHER is the one that killed him...it's devastating.

The woman accused of killing her one year old son because he would not go to sleep went before a judge Thursday morning. Shelby Ann Dasher appeared in a St. Louis County courtroom wearing prison clothing and shackles. Judge Permuter entered a not guilty plea for Dasher. Dasher did not have an attorney in court and she said she did not have money for an attorney. PD will be appointed.

Reporters in the courtroom say Dasher barely spoke and and showed no emotion.

Dasher's next court appearance is set for next year on January 5^th.

reports are conflicting about whether she was home. she went to work at 0730 and this is supposed to have happened later in morning when baby wanted to get up. bitch mommy wanted to sleep.



News 4 reporter Mark Schnyder was at the hearing and said Dasher did not appear to be happy or sad... almost indifferent to what was going on. She looked like she could have been up there contesting a parking ticket if you weren't aware of how serious the charges against her really are.

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – When Tyler Dasher’s mother first reported him missing, some suspicion fell on the father, Joe Ellington, who had a limited role in the baby’s life.

News 4’s Russell Kinsaul spoke with Ellington on Thursday and said he wanted to set the record straight about his role in Tyler’s life and about his mental health.

Ellington said that he tried to play an active role in Tyler’s life. Although he and Shelby Dasher never married, he spoke of happy times when all three were together. He also said that the mug shot of Shelby did not look like the person he’d loved. And he was shocked to hear of Tyler’s death.

Ellington said he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, but it is under control, thanks to medication. He also said that Tyler’s funeral will be held Monday. Details are still being worked out. A Tyler Dasher memorial fund has been set up and contributions can be made at any US Bank.

Funeral ceremonies for Tyler Dasher, the 13-month-old boy killed this week, will be held Monday morning at St. Mark Catholic Church, 8300 Morgan Ford Road in Affton, the family announced.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., with the funeral to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lemay.
