An Amber Alert has now been issued for a 9-year-old girl who failed to return home from school Thursday afternoon.

One condition of issuing an alert is that there must be an indication that a child is endangered, facing the possibility of violence or potential violence.

We've now learned from police that Calysta Cordova was last seen at her school, Columbian Elementary in Pueblo, Colorado at approximately 3:30pm on Thursday. Police also say there is a report that she got into a white passenger car possibly a white Mercedes.

The little girl is described as being 4’10” tall and 85 pounds with long brown hair up in a pony tail. She was last seen wearing a black jacket with brown fur around the hood, blue jeans, gray shoes, and a blue Colombia school uniform shirt. She was also carrying a black and pink back pack. The back pack has pink straps and has Wizards of Waverly Place and Selena Gomez on it.

Police are asking for anyone who may have seen Calysta, to call 911.

An agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation began assisting Pueblo Police in their search last night, calling the disappearance "suspicious".

Friends and family formed numerous search parties looking all over the neighborhood with flashlights for the little girl.

Calysta's parents Steven Ryno and Stephanie Cordova are begging for the public's help. They say their little girl means the world to them and is what keeps them going.

They say that she is very shy, but will respond to you calling her by: Calysta, C.J., Lysta, or Calysta J.

"We just need somebody to find her. She's out there, she's lost, it's late, it's scary, and we just want her home," said her mother Stephanie Cordova.

Ryno is the girl's stepfather and says that Calysta and he spend every minute of every day with each other. He called her his "best friend".

"I just want my baby in my arms, bring her home," said Ryno.

And they want Calysta to know, "We are not upset if you went to a friend's house or wherever. Just please come home."

The family lives near the intersection of Palmer and Greene. Police and the FBI are notifying residents in the surrounding area via reverse phone notification in case anyone knows anything about the girl's whereabouts.

happy mother reacts!

child is at hospital being evaluated. i still have no info on abductor.

edit to add:
The Gazette reported that the car of the man she was with broke down Friday in Colorado Springs and a passerby gave them a ride to a Circle K.

Police say the girl ran into the store and asked to use the phone to call her uncle. She called 911 instead.

One witness said the girl had two black eyes and refused to leave with the man, saying she was going to wait for her mother.

The man fled and police are searching for him.

So happy to hear she is safe. Smart girl running when she got the chance. I hope he didn't do her any harm while he had her overnight.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Good girl what a little fighter. The step father taught her well. I wish they could all end like this. The child was 9 min late from school, and they went into panic mode, good for them. This is how normal parents react when their child is missing.
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.
