I always feel so damn sorry for these parents. I can't even begin to imagine the terror they feel when their children are missing and they didn't have a hand in their disappearance.

this is narrowing the investigation.

WHY IS MOM'S BOYFRIEND STILL A MYSTERY??

ABC

The search continues for Sierra LaMar, the Northern California teen who mysteriously disappeared on her way to school.

Authorities say there have been no new leads in the case and an analysis of her cell phone, found about a mile from her school bus stop, has yielded no clues, according to a press release issued by the Santa Clara Sheriff’s office today.

A search and rescue team found the 15-year-old teen’s girl’s phone Saturday night alongside the roadway, about a mile away from her home in Morgan Hills, in the opposite direction of her bus stop, said Sgt. Jose Cordoza, sheriff’s office public information officer, told ABC News.

The charger for the teen’s cell phone was found in her room at home, and the phone looked as if it had been tossed.

Authorities and the Sierra’s family were hopeful that the phone could lead them to the girl. But according to the press release, an analysis of the phone yielded no clues, nor did investigators discover anything helpful in her computer. ”Forensic examinations of Sierra’s cell phone and computer have not revealed information beneficial to Sierra’s disappearance.”

Per this article, the boyfriend's name is Rick Gardiner and he's in the construction business.

...Making the case even more complicated is that her father, a computer engineer, is a registered sex offender. He pleaded no contest in 2009 to "lewd acts" with a minor younger than 14 after he fondled a friend of his older daughter's at a slumber party in 1999....

The night before Sierra disappeared, Danielle LaMar left Sacramento State for spring break and joined her father at his Fremont townhouse. On their way back from dinner, Sierra, a 5-foot-2-inch brunette, called. They put her on speakerphone.

"She was talking about how she wanted to get her hair done the next time she went to Fremont. She wanted to add some blond streaks," Danielle LaMar said. "She was very excited about one of her school assignments, telling me about her research paper. Bringing up her grades made her happy."...

The household followed its typical routine the morning Sierra disappeared, Danielle LaMar said. Gardiner left the house about 6 a.m. Her mother kissed Sierra goodbye and left for her job in Fremont.

Sierra, who that morning tweeted a friend at 6:29, usually made it to the bus stop down the road to Palm and Dougherty avenues by 7:15 a.m. ...

NBC
Sierra's father, Steve Wayne LaMar of Fremont, released a statement Wednesday to speak to his prior conviction on sex crimes with a child. Investigators stressed he is not a suspect in his daughter's disappearance, adding he has been fully cooperative.

Public Statement From Sierra LaMar’s Father, Steve LaMar:

My name is Steve LaMar. My daughter Sierra has been missing since last Friday, March 16th. I am releasing this statement to address a recent report that I am a registered sex offender. This report is true. I anticipated that this unfortunate piece of my background might surface in the media. I immediately disclosed this history to the police on the very first day of the investigation into my daughter’s disappearance, in the interests of openness, truthfulness, and cooperation.

I understand the stigma associated with this in my background, and I assure everyone it is not connected in any way to my daughter’s disappearance. I ask that you please not shift the focus away from the investigation and from finding Sierra. I also ask that you please not let my past shape your opinion of Sierra or anyone in our family.
Please understand, I am a dad, and I want nothing more than to find my missing daughter.

My family is working closely as a team with law enforcement, and we will do so until we can conclude the investigation.

We want to thank law enforcement, the media, and the community for all of the help and support they have given so far.

The offense against Steve LaMar on the Megan's Law website is listed as "lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age." It does not list a date for the conviction. His address is listed as a hotel in Fremont, but people there said he has not lived there for months.
Court documents show that LaMar was originally charged with 12 felony counts of committing lewd or lascivious acts with three children under 14 in March 2009. He pleaded guilty to one count and was sentenced in September 2009 to a year in county jail.

None of the three children was his daughter, documents show.

what item and where??

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office has told NBC Bay Area that they have discovered an item related to the disappearance of 15-year-old Sierra LaMar.

Because of this new information, investigators will be back in Morgan Hill Thursday morning to perform another search of the area around the Lamar home and surrounding properties.

The FBI has been called in to assist in the investigation.

Despite the discovery, the sheriff's office still isn't sure whether Sierra ran away on her own or was abducted. The office says it will be releasing more information about this latest development within a few hours.

Ugh. To me that sounds like a runaway gone bad.

I'm a little surprised they found it Sunday but they just announced it. Why LC?

they say they needed to confirm with family that is was in fact her stuff. i guess they also wanted to keep it to themselves for a bit.

I'm thinking it sounds less and less like a runaway situation. Even if Sierra had met some creep online and made plans to run off with him, Sierra would have gone willingly, so why would the perp get rid of her things so close by and somewhere where they would likely be found? It's looking more to me like something might have happened in the home or in the driveway and the perp wanted to take attention away from the home.

Hmm good point. Unless it was her first time meeting him and he just grabbed her.

i'm more and more thinking something happened in or very close to home. i am still curious about mom's boyfriend, there have been no answers other than his name.

The FBI has set up a roadblock on Dougherty Avenue near the intersection with Palm Avenue as part of their investigation into the disappearance of 15-year-old Sierra Lamar.

She was supposed to catch a school bus at that intersection last Friday but never made it.

Agents are stopping every driver and quizzing them about their recollection of the morning of March 16 when Sierra disappeared.

Police are asking if motorists saw anything unusual and if this is the route that motorist would normally take? The road block started around 7 a.m. No word if this has yielded any new clues or information.

Sierra's mother, Marlene LaMar, pleaded for help this morning, but she didn't seem to realize she referred to her daughter in the past tense.

"I'm hoping that you know, you think of her as your own child. You know, she's, she was such a lovable young lady," LaMar said.

Ok the mom...i am not saying anything except what i have noticed, no interpretation yet. but a couple little things i would zero in on if i were interrogating her.

when she was interviewed by a reporter at bus stop a couple days ago, she was quite composed. but as soon as a car came by and stopped for her to give a flyer she turned on the waterworks. boo hoo hoo until they drove off, then she went over to boyfriend.

she was on phone on nancy grace tonight. refused to discuss Sierra's father, her ex-husband, or her (mom's) boyfriend. why isn't she more forthcoming with that? let's eliminate boyfriend. i have no concern about the dad. he's done everything right. spilled his gut and his unsavory past for the media. it would have come out anyway.

then she flat out lied...she said she did not know what clothing was found in the juicy bag that was found. but the police at presser said they had told the mom so they could determine it was Sierra's. (see post 29) oops?

i have one other question i have not heard addressed...HAS ANYONE TAKEN A POLY??

MORGAN HILL (KRON) -- The FBI has now wrapped up an initial search of the home where missing teenager Sierra Lamar lived with her mother. KRON 4's J.R. Stone reports agents first took photos of the exterior of the family home. Later an FBI mobile crime lab pulled up to the home and investigators went inside to look for more evidence of what happened to Sierra. The focus on the house comes a week to the day after Sierra was last seen heading for her school bus stop. Crime scene investigators also spent time doing an intensive search of a wooded area next to the home behind a large back fence. Other agents went door to door in the neighborhood canvassing for more information about Sierra's disappearance. "They came knocking on the door," neighbor Sydney Flores says. "About eight of them came in and they just went through the whole house, looking searching through the bedrooms, the closets. They went into the garage and up into the loft. They walked around the perimeter. It was quite interesting when they came walking in. You can't say no. They were very nice and cordial and asked the questions that needed to be asked and we answered them the best that we could." Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies have said earlier in the week that tracking dogs found Sierra's scent ends at the end of the family driveway. Missing children's advocate Marc Klaas, who met with Marlene Lamar on Wednesday, says he thinks authorities are following the path the forensic evidence leads them. "There's a perception her cell phone was thrown from a moving car," Klaas tells KRON 4 News. "Now the bag that had the clothing in it also seems to have been thrown from a moving car. My best sense after having gone to visit the family is that they're living in a pretty remote place and if you don't have business in that neighborhood, chances are very great that you're not going to be in that neighborhood. Now, it's at the very end of a cul-de-sac which has about eight houses on each side leading up to the turns left to the road that she turns left to to walk to the school bus and from that point on, it's nothing but fields, nothing but farmland. I personally believe that whatever happened to her happened in that cul-de-sac and I think the business with the cell phone and the couture bag being found in a different direction might just be misdirection." Santa Clara authorities are planning more searches over the weekend. 30 volunteers from the Search and Rescue unit including four tracking dogs will be searching a 12 mile radius from Palm Avenue and Dougherty Avenue in Morgan Hill.

I still don't think the dad had anything to do with it, but his crimes are worse than first reported.

I agree something's off with the mom. And why the hell would she lie about something that LE has already publicly commented on? Is she just confused from the stress of Sierra being missing, or is she confused about keeping stories straight? (I'm reserving judgement too - Tori Stafford's mother's behavior was a textbook example of how a guilty parent would behave and it turned out she had nothing to do with it.)

I don't know if anyone's taken a poly - it hasn't been reported. If I were LE, that's the first thing I would do. From about the second day, LE was saying the family and mother's BF had been cleared, but I've wondered how thorough they were. As far as we know, no one but the mother had contact with Sierra after 9:30 Thursday night. Sierra's phone went off at 9:30. Someone texted from Sierra's phone at 7:11 am Friday, but we don't know for sure that it was Sierra.

according to what LE has released her scent stopped at end of her driveway.
if so, that must indicate someone was laying in wait...either a stranger, or someone she may have expected to be there. the street is a cul-de-sac, not much through traffic for an impulse-grab situation.

no teen girl running away is going to toss her precious phone and pricey juicy couture bag.

if that scenario is not correct, then something happened in her house and she never left.

LE has said mother, father, mom's boyfriend have been cleared. if not polys, perhaps solid alibis. usually LE does not come out and make that flat statement.
nobody saw her leave the house, so it is unknown what she was wearing...or whether those were the clothes found in the purse.

Could they say someone was clear to see if they slipped up and gave up information? Or would they not state publicly that a person was cleared at that point if that was what they were doing? Or is that too risky to do? Just by the parents reaction to get out there and responsiveness to the dad's past it seems like the parents didn't do it but as mentioned the boyfriend doesn't seem to come up with much, so I'm just curious if they would play a cat and mouse game like that to get information.
