back at square one.

MORGAN HILL, Calif. -

Ten days after Sierra Lamar failed to catch her regular morning bus ride to school, sheriff's detectives are re-combing a 2 mile radius around her mother's Morgan Hill house.

"Detectives are continuing their investigative efforts (Monday) by re-canvassing the 2-mile radius area from Sierra’s mother house," Santa Clara County Sheriff's Sgt. Jose Cardoza said Monday afternoon.

Deputies said they received more than 350 tips and are busy conducting follow-up interviews with family members, classmates and friends.

Searches for the missing 15-year-old Ann Sobrato High School cheerleader are also being organized and conducted by volunteers.

The KlaasKids Foundation for Children teamed up with The Laura Recovery Center to organize a large search team on Tuesday.

KlaasKids founder Marc Klass said now is not the time to give up hope for finding Sierra safe.

I think I read the following on the help find fb page run by the Facebook nazi about a man near the area had tried to lure a 13 yr old girl into his car, twice not long before Siera disappeared, I wonder if it related, probably not, I can't imagine Siera would get into a car with a strange old man.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Marc Klaas was expecting a few dozen people at most to turn out to help his Klaas Kids Foundation search for missing Morgan Hill teenager Sierra LaMar. By 9 a.m. Tuesday there were 300 people standing in line; ready to brave the wet weather to search for the 15-year-old who has been missing since Friday March 16.

Klaas, and all the organizers of a volunteer search effort were shocked by the turnout.

NBC Bay Area reporter Marianne Favro said by noon, 563 people were registered to help out in the search; many waited for hours in line.

Investigators on Tuesday for the first time said they now suspect Sierra LaMar was taken near her Morgan Hill home, saying they have no reason to think the missing 15-year-old girl ran away.

Though the search for Sierra over the past 11 days has been classified merely as a missing persons case, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said it is now "concentrating their investigative efforts" on an abduction. Detectives now say "it is highly unlikely she ran away."

...Nearly two weeks since the 15-year-old vanished, early Thursday evening, searchers found items just a mile or so from her home and the bus stop where Sierra was heading the day she disappeared....

At the west end of Palm Avenue in Morgan Hill, to the side of the road, a volunteer searcher with KlaasKids found an empty box labeled "stainless steel handcuffs" and about five feet away, two used condoms. ...

Items are being tested to see if they relate to this case.

good cuffs have serial numbers, but i don't remember about the box. they're not tracked like weapons. they may be able to find where they were purchased.

the area where they and the condoms were found is a known party place.

Authorities investigating the disappearance of a California girl searched underwater Thursday after sonar images taken earlier this week detected suspicious objects in a local reservoir.

Sierra LaMar, 15, was last seen early March 16 leaving her Morgan Hill home to walk to a school bus stop.

Divers from the Santa Clara Sheriff's Office began searching the Chesbro Reservoir Thursday after sonar pictures detected areas of concern, Fox affiliate KTVU-TV reported.

"Based on the size and shape and shadowing that we're seeing from the side scan sonar, we'd just like to go back and take a second look at them," Santa Clara County sheriff's Lt. Dan Rodriguez said. "They are larger than normal objects."

The search of local reservoirs, including Chesbro Reservoir and Uvas Reservoir, will continue on Friday, authorities said.

This is crazy (probably) but a woman I know believes this is the guy that grabbed Sierra. Smiley_emoticons_slash She claims to have been chased by this guy some time in March (I don't know all the details) and recognized him when he was arrested. She thinks the timing works for him to have grabbed Sierra.

from AP today.

hell, someone will stumble on her body one day.

Authorities probing the disappearance of a 15-year-old California girl said Monday they're looking for a vehicle they believe is connected to the teenager's abduction.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office released a photo of a 1990s red Volkswagen Jetta that's similar to a car linked to the kidnapping of Sierra LaMar, who has been missing for nearly two months.

Investigators said they believe the girl was snatched early March 16 while walking to a bus stop near her home in Morgan Hill, Calif.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jose Cardoza said the red sedan being sought has a black hood. Police said the vehicle was spotted at the time and place where LaMar disappeared, though it is not known if the girl was riding inside it, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

"It's more than a coincidence," Cardoza told the newspaper. Information on the vehicle was reportedly gathered from witness accounts and surveillance video.

Meanwhile, crime lab technicians continue to analyze possible evidence found during searches for Sierra.

Cardoza said they've determined a handcuff box and used condoms found within a mile-and-a-half of her home are not associated with the case.

Anyone with information on the girl's disappearance is being urged to contact sheriff's investigators at (408) 808-4500 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 808-4431.

similar to this, with a black hood.

MORGAN HILL, Calif. —

A 21-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of kidnapping Monday in connection with the disappearance of Morgan Hill teen Sierra La Mar, according to authorities.

KTVU confirmed Monday evening that Santa Clara sheriff's deputies were holding 21-year-old Antolin Garcia-Torres in custody as a suspect in the case.

Garcia-Torres, a resident of San Martin, is the owner of the red VW Jetta that authorities sought and seized in connection with the case on May 8th.

Garcia-Torres was being questioned about the disappearance of the 15-year old girl from Morgan Hill.

Shortly after 10 p.m. when KTVU broke the story, officials confirmed that Garcia-Torres was booked on one charge of murder and one charge of kidnapping.

At the Santa Clara County sheriff's office Monday night, there were high hopes that the arrest is the break investigators have needed to solve the disappearance of Sierra La Mar.

A KTVU camera crew was at the Safeway store on Tenant Avenue in Morgan Hill at around 6 p.m. when sheriff's detectives took Garcia-Torres, a store employee, into custody.

KTVU followed the detectives to the sheriff's headquarters in San Jose and were outside at around 9 p.m. when detectives took Torres to the main county jail.

Sources tell KTVU detectives questioned Garcia-Torres for two hours about the missing teenager, trying to find out her location.

Authorities were mum when pressed for more details.

Sources said there is some DNA evidence linking Garcia-Torres to the clothing found in Sierra La Mar's backpack.

We have also been told that Garcia-Torres has been under around-the-clock surveillance since he was identified, including at his job and at his San Martin home.

The sheriff's office was declining to comment on the arrest or provide any details about what Garcia-Torres has said including whether he knows Sierra La Mar.

The sheriff's department said it plans to release more details at a news conference Tuesday.

They have a video at KTVU of this guy being led out of the station into a car, he doesn't look upset, scared, intimidated, nothing, he has this kind of smirk on his face like he is proud of what he's done and he thinks he can still get away with it.

I was really hoping Sierra would be found alive, such a beautiful young girl full of life.

presser right now.

direct, forensics and circumstantial evidence indicate murder.

DNA of suspect on her found clothing. stranger abduction, did not know each other. his DNA was in database from a prior assault. he's not a RSO.

no body.

her parents are there.
no body so poor mom still hoping. :(

I don't know about other states, but in California they do a DNA swab for every felony arrest. That is how they linked him to Sierra. Even though the assault charge was dropped, they got his DNA. Good job.

How do finding her things equate to the assumption of murder? Neatly folded in a backpack isn't like bloody and scattered.

i have no doubt that they have a lot of evidence, forensic and circumstantial, to say she is dead. and to connect him. you don't need a body to come to that conclusion. LE doesn't tell everything they have/know.

at this point they are trying to get him to confess and tell them where body is. their playing card is taking death penalty off the table.

The sister of the Morgan Hill man arrested for the kidnapping and killing of 15-year-old Sierra LaMar says authorities have the wrong man.

"It's not him," said Lucero Garcia, whose younger brother, 21-year-old Antolin Garcia-Torres, was arrested Monday and charged with Sierra's disappearance and presumed death.

Lucero Garcia, 26 called the arrest "unfair." She said she realizes how it sounds when family members of criminal suspects speak out on their behalf, but "I honestly feel they don't have enough evidence to convict him." SHE DOES NOT SAY SHE THINKS HE'S INNOCENT.

Isboset Martinez, the babydaddy of Lucero Garcia's children, said authorities are pointing at Garcia-Torres "because of his image, but image isn't anything." He said Garcia's family feels sorry for Sierra's family and send them their best wishes.

Garcia-Torres has a wife and 1-1/2-year-old daughter, and his wife is three months pregnant, his sister said.

"It feels like we're in a movie right now, an unfair movie," Lucero Garcia said.
