DOES ANYBODY REALLY KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?
(04-24-2012, 09:41 PM)Maggot Wrote: Holy moley..........look at the time.........hah Do you know what time it is?

Does anybody really know what time it is?

I'm in PST, so earlier here. But, we can end tonight with this personal favorite if you want and pick up it up again later sometime when the sun is shining (unless someone else picks it up while we're out)...

Early one mornin the sun was shinin
I was layin in bed
Wondrin if she'd changed at all
If her hair was still red
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like
Mama's homemade dress
Papa's bank book wasn't big enough
And I was standin'on the side of the road
Rain fallin on my shoes
Heading out for the east coast
Lord knows I've paid some dues
Gettin' through
Tangled up in blue

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam i guess
But I used a little too much force
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out west
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin' away
I heard her say over my shoulder
We'll meet again some day
On the avenue
Tangled up in blue

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the axe just fell
So I drifted down to New Orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Workin for a while on a fishin boat
Right outside of Delacroix
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind
And i just grew
Tangled up in blue

She was workin in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer
I just kept lookin at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I's just about to do the same
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, Don't I know your name?
I muttered somethin under my breat
She studied the lines on my face
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces
Of my shoe
Tangled up in blue

She lit a burner on the stove
And offered me a pipe
I thought you'd never say hello, she said
You look like the silent type
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the 13th century
And everyone of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin off of every page
Like it was written in my soul
From me to you
Tangled up in blue

I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin on
Like a bird that flew
Tangled up in blue

So now I'm goin back again
I got to get to her somehow
All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now
Some are mathetmaticians
Some are carpenters' wives
Don't know how it all got started
I don't know what they're doin with their lives
But me, I'm still on the road
Headin' for another joint
We always did feel the same
We just saw it from a different point
Of view
Tangled up in blue

I will come for you at nighttime
I will raise you from your sleep
I will kiss you in four places
As I go running along your street
I will squeeze the life out of you
You will make me laugh and make me cry
And we will never forget it
You will make me call your name
And I'll shout it to the blue summer sky
And we may never meet again
So shed your skin and let's get started
And you will throw your arms around me
Yeah, you will throw your arms around me
I dreamed of you at nighttime
And I watched you in your sleep
I met you in high places
I touched your head and touched your feet
So if you disappear out of view
You know I will never say goodbye
And though I try to forget it
You will make me call your name
And I'll shout it to the blue summer sky...
And we may never meet again...
So shed your skin and let's get started
And you will throw your arms around me
Yeah, you will throw your arms around me
Oh...yeah...
Ohhh yeah...
You will throw your arms around me...
Yeah, you will throw your arms around me....

Dry your eyes and do not weep
Come into my sleep

This ain't no make believe
I ain't foolin around this time
You can believe what you want to believe
It's a sin the way we've wasted our time

Make me feel like I wanna feel
Baby tear this pain from my heart
Make me feel like I wanna feel
Make me feel like I did in the start

Maybe it's a change of plan
Now that your dreams have left me behind
Or is it another man
Who didn't care that you were mine

Baby this could be our last chance
Now you're actin like it's no big deal
Make me feel like I wanna feel
Make me feel like I did in the start

I can hear, I can hear, I can hear
The radio playin' your favorite song
I don't care, I don't care, I don't care
I know that something had to go wrong

Baby don't you walk away
Stay here and listen to my plans
You can leave, make it another day
Stay tonight and hold me in your hands

Lullaby Of London

By Shane MacGowan (1988) (Pogues)

As I walked down by the riverside
One evening in the spring
Heard a long gone song
From days gone by
Blown in on the great North wind
Though there is no lonesome corncrake's cry
Or sorrow and delight
You can hear the cars
And the shouts from bars
And the laughter and the fights

May the ghosts that howled
Round the house at night
Never keep you from your sleep
May they all sleep tight
Down in hell tonight
Or where ever they may be

As I walked on with a heavy heart
Then a stone danced on the tide
And the song went on
Though the lights were gone
And the North wind gently sighed
And an evening breeze coming from the East
That kissed the riverside
So I pray now child that you sleep tonight
When you hear this lullaby

May the wind that blows from haunted graves
Never bring you misery
May the angels bright
Watch you tonight
And keep you while you sleep

Nice lyrics, Clad. That old North Wind is haunting, for sure. Something from Charley Pride:

Well once I met a pretty little girl and she was fair to see
I fell in love with a pretty little girl she fell in love with me
I kissed her on her dimpled chin while stars in heaven did play
But along come a howl in that old north wind and carried her away
North wind north wind bring my baby back again
North wind where did she go nobody but you will ever know

It seems I hear her calling me and when I answer back
I find it's just that old north wind a whistlin' round my shack
Each night before I go to sleep down on my knees I pray
That the old north wind come a howlin' by and carry me away
North wind north wind...

Hibye Maggot.

Hello, it's me, I've thought about us for a long, long time
Maybe I think too much but something's wrong
there's something here that doesn't last too long.
Maybe I shouldn't think of you as mine.
Seeing you, or seeing anything as much as I do you,
I take for granted that you're always there,
I take for granted that you just don't care.
Sometimes I can't help seeing all the way through.

Haha. You're up, when you're ready...

Hi HotD. You know I did 'Hello, it's me' back on page 10?

I have copyrighted this one.

How dare you!

You may be able to avoid punishment by whispering sweetly in my ear...

Oops. hah

Time can never mend
The careless whispers, of a good friend
To the heart and mind, ignorance is kind
There's no comfort in the truth
Pain is all you'll find

(Should've known better, yeah)

I feel so unsure
As I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor
As the music dies, something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen
And all its sad good-byes

Chorus:
I'm never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it's easy to pretend
I know your not a fool
Should've known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I'd been given
So I'm never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend
To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind
There's no comfort in the truth
Pain is all you'll find

You knew I liked that one, huh?

A simpler time back in 1984/1985. Before I realized that men wanted to have sex with other men (George Michael).

That song was voted the number one song of the 1980's in Britain.

Tax prep time; business and home property. Started the process today; feel like I'm drowning. ...[Image: sad0105.gif]

The taxman, yeah, the taxman...

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.

Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me.

On cold winter nights, I love hearing this one come on the radio:

'See the curtains hanging in the window,
In the evening on a Friday night...

A little light shining through the window
lets me know everything is alright.

Summer Breeze makes me feel fine
blowin through the jasmine in my mind.'

Another oldie but goodie:

'I can picture every move that a man could make
gettin lost in her lovin' is your first mistake.

Sundown ya better take care
if I find you been creepin' round my back stairs.

Sometimes I think it's a sin when I think that I'm winning when I'm losing again.'

I think both of the last two songs you posted about have been referenced upthread, MS. You might be losing it.

"Losing It" is a great track off of Rush's 82 release, Signals.

'Sundown' was referenced by someone?

No shit.

One more ode to Rush's Canadian brother:

'.... Just like an old-time movie, bout a ghost from a wishin' well.
In a castle dark, or a fortress strong, with chains upon my feet...
You know that ghost is me.

And I won't ever be set free as long as I'm a ghost that you can't see...'

First song I ever sang at karaoke.

I almost ended up getting stationed in Iceland (from Norway) but passed on it.

While in Norway, I did meet one Icelandic woman in 1987 when I was interviewing the Canadian group Glass Tiger. She was drop dead gorgeous!

Which leads me to my point. I really like Of Monsters and Men. They're from Iceland. Might be their first musical export.

'Little Talks' is excellent. HotD, maybe you could post the YouTube video for me?

TIA!

Take Me Back -Lyrics - Van Morrison

I've been walking by the river
I've been walking down by the water
I've been walking down by the river

I've been feeling so sad and blue
I've been thinking, I've been thinking, I've been thinking,
I've been thinking, I've been thinking, I've been thinking,
Ah there's so much suffering, and it's
Too much confusion, too much, too much confusion in the world

Take me back, take me back, take me back
Take me way back, take me way back, take me way back
Take me way back, take me way back, take me way back
Take me way back, take me way back, ah!
Take me way, way, way, way, way, way, way back, huh!
Help me un.....help me understand
Take me, do you remember the time darlin'
When everything made more sense in the world (yeah)
Oh I remember, I remember
When life made more sense
Ah, ah, take me back, take me back, take me back, take me back
Take me back, take me back, take me back, take me back
Take me back (woah) to when the world made more sense
Well there's too much suffering and confusion
And I'm walking down by the river
Oh, let me understand religion

Way, way back, way back
When you walked, in a green field, in a green meadow
Down an avenue of trees
On a, on a golden summer
And the sky was blue
And you didn't have no worries, you didn't have no care
You were walking in a green field
In a meadow, through the buttercups, in the summertime
And you looked way out over, way out
Way out over the city and the water
And it feels so good, and it feels so good
And you keep on walking

And the music on the radio, and the music on the radio
Has so much soul, has so much soul
And you listen, in the nightime
While we're still and quiet

And you look out on the water
And the big ships, and the big boats
Came on sailing by, by, by, by
And you felt so good, and I felt so good
I felt I wanna blow my harmonica

Take me back, there, take me way back there
Take me back, take me back, take me back
Take me way, way, way back, way back
To when, when I understood
When I understood the light, when I understood the light
In the golden afternoon, in the golden afternoon
In the golden afternoon, in the golden afternoon
In the golden afternoon when we sat and listened to Sonny Boy blow

In the golden afternoon when
We sat and let Sonny Boy, blow, blow his harp

Take me back, take me back, take me back
Take me way, way, way, way, way, way, way
Back when I, when I understood, when I understood, yeah
Oh, ah, take me way back, when, when, when, when, when, when
When, when, when, when, when, when, when
I was walking down the
Walking down the street and
It didn't matter
'Cause everything felt, everything felt, everything felt
Everything felt, everything felt, everything felt, everything felt
Everything felt, everything felt, everything felt so right, ha
And so good
Everything felt, so right, and so good
Everything felt, so right, and so good
Everything felt, so right, and so good, ah
Everything felt, so right, and so good
Everything felt, so right, and so good, so good
In the eternal now, in the eternal moment
In the eternal now, in the eternal moment
In the eternal now
Everything felt so good, so good, so good, so good, so good
And so right, so right, so right, just
So good, so right, so right, in the eternal
In the eternal moment, in the eternal moment
In the eternal moment, in the eternal moment
When you lived, when you lived
When you lived, in the light
When you lived in the grace
In the grace, in grace
When you lived in the light
In the light, in the grace
