FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Volunteers showed up in droves Thursday to help search for evidence connected to the disappearance of Kelli Bordeaux

Officials showed volunteers a picture of Pfc. Bordeaux the night she disappeared and told them to be on the lookout for the soldier's cell phone.

A command post has been set up in the parking lot of the Cape Fear Valley Health System's Health Pavilion North at the northwest corner of the intersection of Ramsey Street and Andrews Road for searchers to sign-in and out.

Teams were assigned to search in various locations around the North Fayetteville area.

Kelli Bordeaux remains have been found.

"The remains of Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux, a Fort Bragg soldier who disappeared more than two years ago, may have been found and a suspect has been arrested in her death, police in North Carolina said Wednesday.

Detectives went to an area near the Interstate 295 corridor on the northern side of Fayetteville after receiving information, city police spokesman Lt. Todd Joyce said. The search turned up remains believed to be those of Bordeaux.

The remains will be sent to the chief medical examiner's office to confirm the identity.

Joyce said 27-year-old Nicholas Michael Holbert has been arrested and will be charged with first-degree murder and may face additional charges.

Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock said at a news conference that Holbert had been a person of interest in the case since Bordeaux disappeared."

Suspect Holbert is a registered sex offender and all-around scumbag.

Thanks for the update, Cheyne.

Now that LE has a body and a confession, hoping for a very speedy conviction.

Murder victim Kelli Bordeaux and her confessed killer Nicholas Holbert

Holbert helped investigators find a shallow grave off River Road. Bordeaux's remains were inside, police said.

Holbert, a registered sex offender, told investigators he killed Bordeaux at a lean-to shelter behind the now-closed Froggy Bottoms bar on Ramsey Street, according to arrest warrants.

According to arrest records, Holbert got into a fight with Bordeaux outside Froggy Bottoms.

Arrest records said Holbert knocked Bordeaux unconscious, put her in a car and later killed her at a campsite behind the bar.

Hours later, warrants said, he buried Bordeaux in a shallow grave off River Road, about a mile and a half north of Interstate 295.

He has been a "person of interest," the chief said, since Bordeaux, 23, vanished after leaving the bar with Holbert during the early morning hours of April 14, 2012.

The death penalty is still on the table for Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West, who said he will review evidence in Bordeaux's death to see if charges against Holbert warrant capital punishment.

"As the investigative file comes in, we'll review the investigation to see if any factors exist, and then we'll present that at a hearing later on in the process," West said.

GUILTY -- LIFE IN PRISON

^ Louis Ray Perez, 49, and Dorothy Maraglino, 40 (left and center), were convicted of Brittany Killgore's kidnapping and murder in October 2015. They were sentenced to life in prison yesterday. Jessica Lynn Lopez (^right), was also convicted of murder and is expected to be sentenced later.

Brittany was divorcing her husband, a Marine stationed in Afghanistan. Fellow Marine, Louis Ray Perez, 49, offered to help 22-year-old Brittany pack and move her things.

Brittany was moving from near the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in California back to Pennsylvania. Perez invited Brittany to dinner before her move and she accepted.

That night in April 2012, she texted a friend, "help". Her nude body was found four days later near a lake in Riverside, CA.

Turns out, Perez, Maraglino and Lopez were involved in an S&M sex slave triangle and Perez had lured and kidnapped unsuspecting Brittany. Prosecutors said the trio killed Brittany to fulfill their sadistic fantasies.

A stun baton found in the back of Perez's SUV had Brittany's DNA on it. A plastic sheet in the back of Perez's car also had the victim's blood on it.

Of course, the defendants pointed the finger at each other as being the one who actually killed Brittany. Luckily, the jury didn't buy the finger pointing routine and found them all guilty.
