I clean up nice. Just can't seem to even get hired for a low level entry position. My mom claims I'm not putting enough effort into finding work, but I can't force people to hire me, all I can do is go on interview after interview and sell myself and hope someone buys it.

Or go back to school for more job training. blech.

If prospective employers are seeing a 1-2 year lapse in employment, they're less likely to want to give you a chance.

You'll need to grovel in order to get work, or take something that you feel is clearly 'beneath' you.

However, as long as Mom is willing to house, clothe and feed you, there's no real panic mode setting in.

Panic mode IS setting in. Mom and Dad plan on moving into a senior apartment or nursing home in the next 2-3 years. And she don't clothe me, just feed, house, and pay for my car and car insurance and other expenses.

No job is "beneath" me(well maybe male prostitute), but I can't even seem to get hired for those jobs. Walmart, ShopRite, Aldi's, Stewart's,etc won't even return my calls/emails when I apply for a job and get no response/interview.

Want to help point out the obvious to my mom who thinks I can help de-junk 30 years of hoarder junk from her house and still have the time/energy to adequately look for work, and volunteer at the local food pantry, and elsewhere?

I must be bored to sit here and point out the non-obvious which is that I do much more that sit on my ass all day. every day and enjoy a "free ride".
