I woke up to this news on the radio. It was the expected outcome given what we knew, but it still hits hard. I'm glad her body was recovered and that LE was able to find the creep who did this. So sad...a lovely, responsible, hard-working young woman leaves to go to work, and, poof, her life is gone.

..It was the news the family of Whitney Heichel did not want to hear; the news that searchers had found the body of the young Oregon woman who vanished earlier this week on her way to work at a Starbucks store.

The body of Whitney Heichel, 21, was found on Larch Mountain, a remote, forested area east of Gresham, Oregon Police Chief Craig Junginger said at a news conference held to release information about the case.

Junginger also said that after collecting DNA and fingerprints and conducting three interviews over three days, police arrested on Friday evening a neighbor of Heichel’s, Jonathan Holt, 24, of Gresham for investigation of aggravated murder.

Mr. Holt lived in the same apartment complex as Whitney and her husband Police said there many “inconsistencies" noted in Holt's interviews....

Oregon Live - The man accused of killing Whitney Heichel told investigators that he kidnapped her, sexually assaulted her, then shot her four times.

He said he then drove her body to Larch Mountain and concealed it.

Those stark statements emerged Monday afternoon in a probable cause affidavit released following Jonathan D. Holt's arraignment in Clackamas County Circuit Court.

An emotionally distraught Holt, 24, was arraigned on seven counts of aggravated murder Monday afternoon in the shooting death of Heichel, 21, of Gresham. He quietly gave one-word answers during the court appearance.

The multiple charges result from several aggravating circumstances prosecutors allege, including kidnap, sodomy and robbery. Aggravated murder also applies to killings committed in effort to conceal another crime. If convicted, Holt could face the death penalty.

Dressed in a suicide smock, Holt looked down and could be seen shedding at least one tear during his brief appearance via closed-circuit television

The details of the alleged crime were contained in the two-paragraph affidavit. It says that Holt told Sgt. Jon Harrington of the Oregon State Police on Friday that he waited outside for Heichel at the Heatherwood Apartments in Gresham the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 16, as she was leaving for work and asked her for a ride.

Along with living in the same apartment complex, Heichel and Holt knew each other, apparently because both were Jehovah's Witnesses.

According to the document, Holt, 24, told Harrington that about five minutes into the ride, he pulled a gun on Heichel while they were on Hogan Drive in Gresham. He said he then took her at gunpoint to Roslyn Lake in Clackamas County, where he forced her to perform oral sex on him. He then shot and killed her.

My thoughts exactly. Who cares? The time to have been emotionally distraught should have been when this sick plan entered his mind. Barring that, maybe he should have been emotionally distraught after he had raped Whitney and let her go and turned the gun on himself instead of her. No sympathy for him.

I was thinking the same thing then my thoughts were over taken by his crying mugshot. I also agree with if he was so distraught he could have let her go at any time.. he could have turned himself in or if sooooooo distraught as mentioned just turn the gun on yourself and do us all a favor before you hurt her but he didnt do that. He chose to cry in his mugshot im sure hell plead out too to get a lesser sentence.
