Steubenville, OH Gang Rape Case
1 Convicted Rapist Released after 9 Months

WTOV-TV in Steubenville reports that Ma'Lik Richmond has been released. His attorney, Walter Madison, says in a statement that the youth is a "better, stronger person," and requests privacy.

He is required to register as a sex offender for the next 20 years, though he can request to have the classification removed later based on rehabilitation history, and his name won't be included on publicly accessible websites.

Doesn't seem enough, to me. But, I'm glad that he at least did some time after Anonymous swept the case out from under the cover-up rug and into the public spotlight.

9 months?

Wow, I bet that stretch made him learn his lesson, and he now requests privacy? Pity he didn't respect the privacy of the victim him and his friends gangraped.

Always makes my heart glow to know everything possible is being done to protect the privacy of sex offenders.

Talk about a slap on the wrist...

^ Seth Fluharty, a teacher and coach accused of trying to thwart an investigation into the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Steubenville, Ohio, will have the charge dismissed in exchange for community service at a domestic violence shelter, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced Friday.

Fluharty was charged last year with a single misdemeanor count of failure to report child abuse or neglect involving the rape of the girl by two Steubenville High School football players in 2012.

The charge will be dismissed once Fluharty completes 20 community service hours at a domestic violence shelter and attends anti-sexual violence training at Steubenville city schools, DeWine said.

"This resolution acknowledges how very important it is to report child abuse and neglect," DeWine said in a statement.

SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION APPEAL DENIED

Ma'Lik Richmond got off with only nine months served and the requirement to register as a sex offender.

Still, he appealed the sex offender requirement.

Glad to see his appeal was denied this week.

The Seventh Ohio District Court of Appeals rejected arguments by Richmond's attorneys that the juvenile classification violated constitutional due process protections and amounted to double jeopardy.
