A question for the aussies about winter.

I know that you folks are heading into your winter months, so I was curious about what you do in preparation. I put my storm windows in, close the garden, get my snow blower ready and make sure my generator is working. What do you do? Its a big country you have there.

It's the first day of winter here. It's friggin' freezing. I will post a good picture of snow on the mountain this year.

Most of the houses here are geared up for winter. It might be different in other states. It does not snow like it does where you are, but that Antarctic chill is something else. brrrrr

That's so odd to me. Kind of like visiting the east coast and having the ocean on the east side when I'm so used to the ocean being west.

Winter in June, summer at Christmastime. Hard to imagine.

Thanks, it interests me because we have 4 seasons here and my favorites are spring & fall. Its about 93 today and after having my A.C. unit serviced last fall it decides to screw me with a blower motor issue today. I tried to be prepared but.........just ....didn't....work.
Good thing I know a few HVAC guys. hah
Although last Christmas eve I was sick as a dog and was down in my cellar replacing my control panel and fan unit. Santa still came though and that's what really matters.

Sometimes I get a little sick of winter and love the summer months now. I couldn't live without the air conditioner for the really hot days. Didn't you have trouble with your dishwasher too?

That's how I felt when my condenser stopped working a couple weeks ago.

The dishwasher was just a wire near the motor that came undone in shipping. The AC was just fixed today and I wired the blower for cooling and disconnected the heat. I need a schematic for the motor to see what I did wrong. It was a quick fit universal motor that I put in last Christmas so I probably screwed it up, but who needs heat when its 98 deg. And that's a job getting it out of the squirrel cage and making sure its balanced.
I will save that for another day.

I live north enough, and coastal enough, not to have any snow. We don't need to 'prepare' anything. It usually rains here more in Winter, so I'll clean all the gutters out around the house, make sure all the storm water drains are clear. Prune my roses and fruit trees some, and get some beds ready for winter veggies if I feel like growing some. Think this year I'll grow some sprouts, cabbage, broccoli and some sugar snap peas.

I would like to try having a barbecue on the beach on Christmas day.

That would be pretty cool.
