Who are you hanging out with on the left? I ask because I'm pretty firmly there and no one has tried to push socialism down my throat. I haven't even had a conversation about it.

Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Liz Warren, Kristin Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar,  Robert O'Rourke, Pete Buttigieg and the rest of the list all are pushing socialism; the green new deal, Medicare for all,  free college, free housing, reparations, just to name a few of the socialist ideas they are touting.

And plenty in Congress agree with them. Watch the program; see where it leads..

Pappy, I don't relate to your view of the world, or people in general, at all. I don't have the same concerns you have either.

You don't have my education or life experience. My "little voice" is saying get prepared. Read the books I have posted; you might just change your opinion.

America has free education, free health care and the best environment of any country. And the freedom to complain about any of it. But it's not enough and will never be enough. We have 2 party's that fight each other more than we fight about other countries. It's pitiful. Medicare, public schools and less pollution than any other. Better and more lax immigration policies than any other and more social programs than any other. It's not enough though, just not enough.

I can laugh at the crying. America is the greatest country in the world, I have been to the others.

We have public schools where all children can get an education up to highschool. After that I do not want to pay for the dumb motherfuckers to go to college to get a useless degree. Do you? Because that's exactly what Bernie and the gang are suggesting. I guess you motherfuckers are rich and just want to support every useless bum in america?

I know from personal experience that higher education and a degree is far from 'useless' sal.

I wouldn't have qualified for most of the corporate positions I held without it and it helped me to establish my own business and make it profitable .  It was therefore critical in me being able to care for my mom and assist some of the children in my family to get a higher education.

My parents couldn't afford to pay for college tuition (or bribe university administrators). I worked full time to put myself through college at night, with some reimbursement from one of my employers.  It wasn't that difficult.

But, it's different now.  These days, an undergraduate degree is equivalent to a high school diploma back in the day, in terms of job requirements. Plus, a lot more colleges and universities cost a fortune and require students to take on massive amounts of debt via high interest for-profit student loans.  It's especially problematic that smart young people can't afford to go to medical school as the median age of our population continues to increase.

Even in the least expensive schools, it can seem like a fortune for young people who really want to learn and/or be able to qualify for career positions but don't come from money and would have to work so many hours to pay for tuition that they wouldn't be able to attend classes.  It's a real problem for a lot of driven young people, especially those who come from generational poverty.

Anyway, decent health care and higher education should be accessible to everyone in a democracy, even a capitalist democracy/republic, in my opinion. It's essential, actually.  If the society is getting weaker, less educated, older, more catered to those who inherit wealth....the middle class erodes, society becomes more divided, and the country becomes less motivated and competitive in the global market.   And, those who want elite or premium services should have the option to pay for them directly.

So, to answer your question...............while this motherfucker doesn't consider herself rich and is not giddy about my taxes helping to pay for other people's education, I've already paid hundreds of thousands in taxes that went towards other people's kids getting elementary education and feel okay about that. I'm open to proposals to make higher education more accessible too -- such as Bernie's proposal to fund public higher education via taxing high-risk trade transactions + work study, more tax dollars going to higher education funding and being taken from other areas of the national budget, and/or doing away with the ridiculous tax exemption for  religious organizations/businesses and applying that new source of tax revenue to education funding, etc.

They need to have an equal amount if not more trade schools.

I agree that trade schools should be included in the effort to make post high-school education more accessible and affordable.

Right now millions of people are working to put themselves through college just like you. Let them continue to do so. Until I hear Bernies detailed plan on where all that money is going to come from amd how he plans to get it, I get the feeling the biggest burden will be on people like me. Our healthcare system needs to be addressed before we start putting every kid in college with a good portion of them not even belonging there.

I agree Trade schools are where the money will be made. Get out of a good trade school and the first year your making 80,000.00 a year not sitting in Mommy's basement smoking weed and watching cartoons.

Yeah, I want to see the detailed proposals from Bernie and the several other elected representatives and Presidential candidates who are proposing making higher education more accessible and affordable to everyone too.

I haven't heard any of them suggest that we start putting every kid in college; not everyone wants to go to college, which is fine.

The concepts I've heard floated are instead designed to give more people who want to continue their education an opportunity to do so.

And, I agree that health care accessibility and affordability is a more critical immediate priority.

Trump had to fix the priority's first
The economy
Jobs
Immigration
foreign affairs
infrastructure
K-12 education
a few other things before fixing
 the other problems in America.

He has 6 years left so it should be doable.

Well, the economic and job growth performance was on a positive track for a few years before Trump was elected and that trend has continued under his administration.  I give him credit for that.

The April economic/jobs report was released today.  The number of new jobs created was higher than projected and the unemployment rate is the lowest in 50 years.  Good stuff.

I'm hearing some commentators who aren't Trump cheerleaders saying that the reduction in the unemployment rate isn't really all that positive because the number of people seeking jobs is lower than in the past.

However, I likewise remember all the anti-Obama commentators who refused to give him any credit for getting the country out of the recession and decreasing the unemployment rate -- most of those critics claimed that the same government source which has always compiled the reports (then and now) was way off base in its calculations.

So unemployment is low BUT this is in question because the number of people seeking jobs is low?

Wow.

This is something I care about deeply, not that the other things you referenced aren't important, of course they are, but the rolling back of environmental protections makes me so angry. That fool is rolling back regulations that were put in place by President Obama after the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe and he has approved seismic testing in advance of oil and natural gas drilling off my coast. That sonofabitch. Apparently Florida was given a waiver on that because..well, they have a red governor. WTF!
