An $8 an hour job certainly wouldn't hurt though, would it?

The longer you hold out for a "good" job, the likelihood that you will even be considered for a "good" job drops exponentially. By not being employed for so long at ANY job, you are telegraphing several things to whomever is interviewing you.

1. You aren't employable, as you've been unable to find or hold a job.
2. You are lazy, as you've not been working at any job over the past x months or years.
3. You are comfortable hanging back and receiving entitlement benefits.

Get it out of your head that it's not fair, or that you are in your position because of the economy. None of that matters. The only thing that matters is how you appear to your interviewer or hiring manager at this point.

I'm really just trying to help because I know a little bit about this. Unemployment discrimination - fair or unfair - is a real challenge for many job seekers. Those who have been employed at ANY job have a leg up over those who haven't. The economy has created employment Darwinism.

Trust me that taking an $8 an hour job will not prevent you from "missing out" on the job you want. It certainly hasn't kept you from landing something up until now, right? I'd submit that the inverse is true - not taking an $8 job is causing you to miss out on opportunity because you are being screened out before you even have a chance.

The longer this goes on, the lower your self-esteem gets. Your self worth drops, and you feel worse about your prospects of ever getting out of your parents house or that you will find a job. It's a vicious cycle that is likely now feeding on itself and intensifying.

I know you don't think so, but whether you work or not is really up to you. Right now the perfect job for you is one that will hire and pay you.

Even if it is taking orders at a drive-thru in a stupid visor.

the internet is an absolute miracle in the search for missing kids. it can be broadcast all over the country (and world) instantly when a child vanishes. it can summon help and searchers. it gets the child's photo out there and seen by thousands! as well as any suspects. Amber Alerts have a site and a ticker and notify those who wish to be notified.
lots of bullshit on the net, but this is without price.

4-5 years ago. Back when I lost my NYS Dept of Tax and Finance job because I was struggling learning the job, improving but not fast enough for their liking.

Jimbone makes a good point.
I had to accept a position making 1⁄2 what I made before. Interestingly so, all of my needs are met and I have more than I need or want even.
I also went back to school (What I use the internet for/contribution to thread!)

Basically other than using it for school the internet has become a huge waste of time!!!!!!!!!! (For me)

I had more than I need or want back when I was making $32000 a year for the State or about $26000 a year when working at Price Chopper. I don't think I could live on half that. I know I couldn't...I only made about $12,000 a year working at Market Strategies and that's where my financial troubles began...And if I worked at half that I definitely couldn't live on $6,000 a year.

And yeah Jimbone makes a good point...except I can't even seem to get hired for the shitty $8 or less jobs...I'd gladly take it if offered...but yes I would rather hold out and go after a better paying job if possible...looks like it might be back to school for me as well...fuck me...while trying to avoid incurring more student loan debt, I caused my mom to incur even more debt helping me out...to the point of her declaring bankruptcy.

I am an internet junkie. I google everything. I pay all my bills online. I rarely write a check. It's funny but I have the same two boxes of checks I got 9.5 years ago. LOL

I wasn't much for paying bills online but they've gradually put more and more pressure on people to make the switch. Some of my companies eliminated mail copies altogether.
