- Duchess - 03-21-2009 Hey, Mockers...what do you think about a group of people in a "nice" forum that get up on their high horses and piss a bitch about the poor ?...They don't like it that some of these people are holding signs that say they are willing to work for food...They want them to go away or at least take it down the road a ways...I couldn't even verbally slap them 'cuz that woulda been termed "an inappropriate attitude"...I do "things" pertaining to helping the less fortunate so, maybe it's just me that will take offense at their kinda attitude. As an aside, this is not 24 that I am referring to for those of you that may have been ready to jump all over me. - QueenBee - 03-21-2009 I think it i juard for us as a society to comprehend that here are those less fortunate out there. Also, I think folks who are homeless, or of the "working poor" can get a bad rap because there are those who would abuse the help they receive. You know..If I give them money, will they actually spend it on food..or will it go to drugs or booze. When we are comfortable, it is hard to acknowledge that there are those who are not. Are the folks in the other forum offended by seeing them? Why does it bother hem? - Maggot - 03-21-2009 People that hold a sign up that say "will work for food" are scam artist that prey on nicer people. They get handouts from the Government as well as from decent folks that are fooled by this scam. I knew a guy that would put 2 girls on the corner with a sign like that and would sit and watch from across the street, they brought home almost 300.00 per day that they would go and buy drugs with. They are all scum of the earth and could use a lesson in humility. I told him if he ever talked to me again I would knock his block off. He sulked off and moved to another town. Do not be fooled by these knuckle-heads, The real people who need it would never stoop to that level.Give to a homeless shelter or abused womans shelter it will go much further and will be a better gift. - LuMPyPussy - 03-21-2009 Maggot Wrote:People that hold a sign up that say "will work for food" are scam artist that prey on nicer people. As much as I tend to think Maggot's kind of an idiot, I generally agree with him on this. There have been numerous investigative pieces on panhandlers and MANY of them are making better money than most of us. Posting about it in a forum is about as stupid as obsessively posting about illegals, though. It just doesn't do any fucking good. ::dunno:: - LuMPyPussy - 03-21-2009 PS I think the expression is "pitching a bitch." - Freak magnet - 03-21-2009 I do feel for the genuinely homeless people that live on the street and I have been known to give them a Fiver here and there in the past....call me a sucker:? If I see them with a Dog I prefer to give them mutt grub (for the dog smart arse). Unfortunately its hard to know who's genuine and whos not . What forum were you talking about ? - SyberBitch - 03-21-2009 I have to agree about the scamming. I've helped quite a few people who were in desperate straights, but I NEVER just hand people money because I will not perpetuate that kind of obnoxious behavior. You have a stable, Duch. If they say 'will work for food', offer to let them come muck for a few hours in exchange for.. say maybe $10/hr. I bet not one of them will take you up on it. I don't look down on people for being poor. I do look down on people for scamming others. If they were truly willing to 'work for food', they damned well would be. - QueenBee - 03-21-2009 Hm, scamming in this case never crossed my mind..not sure why. I know it is out there. But then, I am one of those do gooders that like to give some people the benefit of the doubt..and it can get me into trouble, I guess. I have given to homeless shelters, and battered women shelters. I give a lot of used clothing to the womens shelters...they could use kids clothes, toys and toiletries as well..as the women often leave with just the clothes on thier backs. It is sad when you want to help, and do not know WHO to help. I do not give to folks collecting door to door, though..those are usually scams. - Maggot - 03-21-2009 The Charities that will help are the ones that effect your own home town. I will give more to things like underprivileged children and neighborhood betterment programs. Adults run into problems and 80% is because they got into drugs and alcohol. That is their choice. The road of life is our own making. Giving to children's charities will always bring better results and could break the chain of dependence on society. Call me selfish but I would want a better town where I live, beforeI would even think about other States and towns. Charity starts at home. Fuck-em. - Maggot - 03-21-2009 I like the idea of a thread for bitching and whiningthough. - ramseycat - 03-21-2009 When I was in Houston, my brother, sister and I were sitting at a table outside a Starbucks. This lady came up and asked us for a few dollars because she didn't have any money for food. We each gave her a couple singles. The first thing my sister said after she walked away was I hope she uses it for food and not for drugs. My brother said we gave her money for food with good intentions, our part is done. - Maggot - 03-21-2009 ramseycat Wrote:When I was in Houston, my brother, sister and I were sitting at a table outside a Starbucks. She ran right out and purchased a feather boa and some frenchie perfume. ::lmao:: - The Antagonist - 03-21-2009 Although I've tossed a bum or two some money over the years I've seen with my own eyes that same bum go off and buy booze across the street. There was a TV show documenting the 'panhandling business' of NYC. Many of these panhandlers will have signs saying they'll work for food but most times in the heart of NYC who has the time? It's a clever ruse because they know many will just toss money into a cup or palm instead. The city folk are too busy. Many of these panhandlers bring home over $1500.00 daily. That's right, $1500.00 daily. That's an awful lot of money and I think Clinton was still in office when this show aired - a lot of money per day back then! I even recognized a couple of the 'professional panhandlers' that were interviewed in the show. Giving to the local charities like Maggot said is the best way. If everyone started by "cleaning up their own backyard" it will spread outward. - Lady Cop - 03-21-2009 after katrina i was still living in florida. my honey came over from England to spend time with me, and we hit all the beach bars. so this one guy, with a well-rehearsed script, was scamming anyone he thought might be a gullible tourist. he claimed to be a poor katrina survivor. ::bs::we saw him every day at all the different places. well, he hit on me one day, and i had his sorry ass hauled off to jail for the scam. i had recognized him from many arrests PRE-katrina. oh well, he had 3 hots and a cot then. ::lmao:: - Maggot - 03-21-2009 I am gonna try and make believe she took all the keys off the keyboard and they got mixed up when she put them back on. I know a guy that does that, and cleans each key that way. Harryette is what I call him. Man! he gets pissed.::lmao:: - OnBendedKnee - 03-21-2009 I know when I'm approached, and in downtown San Diego, it is somewhat frequent, I will hand over change or a couple of bills to the needy and less fortunate. In all honesty, I hope they purchase booze with it. It's not like most of them are a hot meal away from turning their lives around. If a little novacaine will get them through a night, so be it. The trick in giving is not to agonize over who is worthy of your donation and who isn't but rather simply getting in the game. Helping others is a small price to pay for what we get in return. For what we get in return is hugh. The rest is all vanity. - Luke Warmwater - 03-21-2009 For what we get in return is hugh. I say "fuck it" if I toss a few bills and for a reward end up with an 85 year old with a mansion and a hard-on - ramseycat - 03-21-2009 Maggot Wrote:I don't know what you people are talking about. ::bigg::ramseycat Wrote:When I was in Houston, my brother, sister and I were sitting at a table outside a Starbucks. What we get in return is helping perpetuate a blight on our society. I dunno. It just doesn't add up to me. |
