- LuMPyPussy - 07-11-2009 PARIS - French tourists are the worst in the world, coming across as bad at foreign languages, tight-fisted and arrogant, according to a survey of 4,500 hotel owners across the world. They finish in last place in the survey carried out for internet travel agency Expedia by polling company TNS Infratest, which said French holidaymakers don't speak local languages and are seen as impolite. "It's mainly the fact that they speak little or no English when they're abroad, and they don't speak much of the local language," Expedia Marketing Director Timothee de Roux told radio station France Info. "The French don't go abroad very much. We're lucky enough to have a country which is magnificent in terms of its landscape and culture," he said, adding that 90 percent of French people did their traveling at home. "So when they're on holiday they can be a bit stressed, they're not used to things, and this can lead them to be demanding in a way which could be seen as a certain arrogance." French tourists are also accused of generally spending less than other nationalities when abroad. De Roux said the French, not accustomed to leaving large tips at home where a service charge is automatically levied on restaurant bills, can seem "tight-fisted" compared with other nationalities. The Japanese ranked top of the Best Tourist survey, with the British and the Germans judged the best of the Europeans. But French tourists received some consolation for their poor performance, finishing third after the Italians and British for dress sense while on holiday. - Lady Cop - 07-11-2009 not a surprise...supercilious froggies. they need to stay home and surrender. - Middle Finger - 07-11-2009 I wonder how Americans rank. - LuMPyPussy - 07-11-2009 It took me a while to find this... Additional findings
- Middle Finger - 07-11-2009 Yay, we're big tippers. Thanks for the find, LMPP. - LKTraz - 07-12-2009 The secret that eludes most Americans travelers is that you don't need to learn ALL of the local language, just enough to get by or for that matter just enough to find someone who speaks English who may assist you. I have used the provinces of Ontario and Quebec as a great shortcut between Vermont and Michigan and as such have witnessed firsthand the "If I just say it louder and slower they will understand English" mentality. One particular day I was in a truck stop in Quebec and walked in to the restaurant as an American driver was trying (with ever increasing volume and frustration) to order breakfast. I went to the public phone to make a call and all the while this fellow was getting absolutely nowhere. After my call I seated myself at the counter and when (the same) waitress came to me I said: "Bonjour. Je ne parle aucun français. Parlez-vous l'anglais ?" (Translation: Hello. I speak no French. Do you speak English?) In answer to this the waitress immediately replied "Certainly sir, I guess you'll be wanting the English version of our menu then." BTW, she had no trace of French accent when replying to me, but a slight Michigan inflection. The dude who was attempting to order loud and slow went ballistic! He hollered at the waitress questioning why she spoke English to me and not to him to which she replied: "This guy was polite enough to learn enough French to tell me he didn't speak French." After he stormed out the waitress muttered loud enough for me to hear, "Fucking moron." The big secret here is that 85% or so of all Quebecers can speak English fluently as it's a requirement to graduate high school! The 15% who don't are most likely French immigrants to Canada. It's amazing what just one simple phrase will do for you - Duchess - 07-12-2009 I'm half French, you fuckers. ::finger:: - LKTraz - 07-12-2009 Duchess Wrote:I'm half French, you fuckers. ::finger::Would it then be appropriate to say: "Allez la moitié vous baise alors."? ::bigg:: - Duchess - 07-12-2009 Why do I think you are asking me if I'm half a mean one...Hahahaha - LuMPyPussy - 07-12-2009 I'd probably go into a restaurant and use my version of sign language with special sound effects. So imagine me doing a chicken impression while trying to order breakfast. :: - LKTraz - 07-12-2009 That's the problem with online translators.....I meant to ask: "Then should you go half fuck yourself"? See....the humor DOES get lost in the translation! ::lmao:: - Duchess - 07-12-2009 ::laugh:: - LKTraz - 07-12-2009 LuMPyPussy Wrote:I'd probably go into a restaurant and use my version of sign language with special sound effects.::rotfl::::rotfl::::rotfl:: |
