Which yeast did you use and what temp did you pitch at? What temp are you fermenting at?

White labs California ale, and I pitched at 72F. I ferment at 75F.

On the Menu a very nice Rib Eye Rare for everyone, Grilled Asparagus with Holandaise, grilled portobello , garden fresh salad and for desert, hand made Key Lime Pie, all prepared by yours truely.
Starter beverage will be a very nice Black IPA, I didn't make it but it is very good.
Wine with dinner will be a late harvest Zinfandel
I tried my hand at my best guess on an "Odells" IPA over the weekend. Pitched the yeast this morning.

Did ribs and chicken over the weekend. Brined both for over 24 hours. Outstanding as usual. Finished it off with some yellow squash boiled in diced fire roasted tomatoes and white sweet potato's with all the fixins.

So your a beer maker too?
I am. For about 10 years now. IPA's are my passion.
Cool, Belgians are my fav. I have one called "Pirat Dans Deadly Dunkel"
A special 12% that Rocks..
I do like the dunkels. It's been a while since I made one though. I'm thinking... about 8 years.

I have no idea what's for dinner. I'm alone & I don't intend to make much of an effort.

Explains the esters you can smell. I'd probably be fermenting that yeast at about 62-64F to control the isoamyl acetate. I don't want that in my IPA. Hefe or Belgian blonde, maybe but not in my ales..

You don't have a fermenting fridge?

No, I have no interest in lagering.

RE: what's for dinner? - SIXFOOTERsez - 06-03-2014

I don't have one either, eventually though.
I use a bucket with cold water, sit the carboy in it and drape a sheet over the carboy into the water. Sitting under a ceiling fan. Works like a nut, dry in Az, might get your ferment temps down a bit.

I don't lager much either. But in summer here it gets up above 120. I bought an old fridge at a garage sale for $50 and rigged it up with a fridgemate controller. My blichmann fits in it just neatly. All up less than a $100 and I only turn it on when I'm brewing. I like my ales clean to show the flavour and aroma of the hops. Works best for me at around 17-18C (62-64F) with yeasts like the Cali ale or Wyeast 1056, 1272 etc.

You all know I don't care where you post but maybe you guys should have a thread where all your info can be found by anyone with an interest in this kind of thing.

I just put a dry rubbed butt of pork in the slow cooker. Should be ready for pulled pork in around 8 hours or so. I put some rub on some ribs for the weekend too. Long weekend here and my girls are coming home..

Sounds like a good weekend, crash. Have a good visit with your daughters.

We're taking off tomorrow to visit my mom and two of my sisters, and to celebrate two of my nephews' birthdays. Looking forward to being on the road for a while and eating and drinking a little too much.

RE: what's for dinner? - crash - 06-05-2014

Thanks, HotD. Have a fun trip with your fam. Eat two pieces of cake..

My sister and her family are at my mom's for a while, plus my mom got a new baby (a female chocolate lab) that's up from 3 am to 5 am every morning. So, I booked a room between her house and my oldest nephew's (which just happens to be right around the corner from an Irish pub where I used to play darts).

I have a feeling a few family members will be using my room as an escape pad for the next couple of days, which is fine by me.

Combined birthday dinner is at a great Cuban place on Sunday night. It's in old Orange Circle and they make a dish called Picadillo Criollo (it's seasoned ground beef and pork cooked together in a Cuban sofrito sauce with raisins and olives) and a strong Cuba Libre (just rum, coke and lime). I'm gonna try to do a half a piece of cake each and double up on the drinks. I haven't been there in over two years -- mouth is already watering.
