My emo niece has been with me in San Francisco for 3 months now. I love the girl so much that it hurts sometimes, but she's a ROYAL pain in the ass.
Trust me, she works the unconditional love for all it's worth. But, she's a good person; I'm really proud of her.
Anyway, since she's doing so well in her first semester at SFCC , I agree to go with her to see a band she's seen a couple of times in LA, on a school night; tell her that I'm happy to be the old broad in the hat sittin' in the corner downing cocktails while the youngsters do their thing.
Hahaha. Turns out, though it's been many years, I know the bouncer, the bartender, and you modern day "darker music" guys are actually a warmly cool sort (same as it ever was). I really enjoyed the music, too.
Anyway, my niece loves this guy from the band and she's too emo shy to take a pic so I agree to let her take one of me with him first (I got a great one of her with him afterwards; she's so stoked). She's not a photography major, obviously.
Some shots from the show:
Fun night.
NAME THAT BAND, GUNNAR?

This makes me miss my favorite Aunt.
How cool was that to realize you knew people there!
It's way past your bedtime.

I'm tipsy.
My niece has her permit, so I had a couple of drinks with some old-timers and let her drive home from the club.
She's taking her driver's test on the 14 th. Will take a load off of me when she can drive the truck to school on the days when she only has 1 one-hour class.
This weekend, she will be parallel parking over and over and over and over in preparation.
Will she pass that test and save me two round trips in less than an hour three times a week?
I'm really not that cool of an aunt. I'm tired of this taxi-ing shit.

Yah, my nephew is into this kind of music. He loves Asking Alexandra. These folks creep me out too much to even want to listen to this genre.

Nope.
We saw Fearless Vampire Killers, Davey Suicide, and William Control.
The photos are from the Suicide set.
I'd not heard any of them before yesterday. I liked them all well enough; small club shows are almost always interesting; jiggled around a bit on the dance floor and tried not to embarrass the kid too much. She really likes the band members and their music a lot.

I'll give you credit, HotD, I would've politely declined.
What a fricken' freak show, but I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.
Were you getting hit on while you were there?
Overhear anyone refer to you as a MILF?

Overhear anyone refer to you as a MILF? Why would you decline? I can't stand the crap my daughter listens to, but I still go with her to her favorite concerts. It's bonding time man. Ya gotta get it while ya can IMO.

It IS a free country after all and you're welcome to go wherever you'd like with your daughter.
I would choose not to go to a show like that particular one.
Thanks for the parenting advice though.

Aww c'mon! You're no fun. Don't be the male version of a suburban hausfrau.

I honestly don't get the freak comments. Must be a really boring old set of eyes to see things through.
I didn't see any freaks; just performers who were very gracious to their fans. It's not everybody's thing and I get that it doesn't appeal to you and others. But, I don't think it's freaky and don't deserve any credit for being interested in my niece's life and going to a show with her.
I see a lot of that same look on the college campus every day. I get why young girls like these guys. It was cool that my niece wanted to share part of her world with me and I got to hear some new music in the process. Fun.
Anyway, male performers in make-up are nothing new, here or anywhere else. I liked KISS, Ozzy Osborne, The Cure, Motley Crue, Culture Club, Adam Ant, Marilyn Manson... Hell, I love Edgar Winter and he doesn't look all that conventional even without make-up.
You're a square, man! (figure that's old school white bread enough of a term for you to appreciate).
P.s. when men, young or old, are cool to me or look at me, I don't assume they're thinking I'm a MILF or anything; don't think I have that mesmerizing irresistible power over the opposite sex that you have in your mind. Nobody last night said, "hey, I'd like to fuck you, let's get it on" or asked for my phone number, so I don't think anyone was hitting on me.
