Slave labor....

Yesterday,  I had the pleasure of volunteering my time to an organization that gives a hand up to foster children and homeless youth.    Honestly,  all I did was show up with my camera and take pics of kids having fun.   I even got pizza and candy out of it.  

I volunteer a lot,  and it usually has to do with some sort of kids program.    My husband calls it slave labor,  because I do what I'm told,  and don't get paid.  I  however,  enjoy doing it.   I find value in happy children. 

Do you volunteer for anything?  Do you find value in yourself for volunteering?  I'm not questioning myself,  just wondering what attitude the majority has about volunteers.

i volunteer to do the dishes every once in a while and i imagine when i get old and decrepit like you I will be doing more for the community so my lunch still comes warm in a box. Good for you!

Do you volunteer for anything?   

I don't know if this can be considered volunteering but every year I have a Save The TaTa's event here on the farm and we make money for those dealing with breast cancer in my state. I give my time to run around the state getting people to donate to my auction-- landscaping services, dental work, catering, etc., anything that people would pay for, I used to pay for the catering myself but as years passed I discovered caterers liked being able to say they were involved and they get a right-off and a couple times of year I collect towels & blankets for my vet. I've never viewed any of that as volunteering though, it's been a labor of love.

Those are great and rewarding volunteer projects.

I donate a lot of items to charities these days, but haven't volunteered my time like I did in California.  

I miss volunteering at the shelters, beach clean-ups, the food bank, nursing homes, and such......but have less time now that I've got my mom with me, even though I'm not working again yet.  She can be one demanding slave driver.  ')

Are belly rubs really all that great?  I tried rubbing my hubs belly the other night, and he was not impressed, so I started digging for bellybutton lint instead.

Anything that you do, that benefits another person or agency,  without expectation of payment,  can  technically be considered volunteering.    It takes a lot of time and effort to host a successful fundraising event.

I've volunteered my time with my brother alot in the past then. Nowadays he's good though. I buy him a meal or two on Saturday and he buys me some groceries with his food stamps.
