If they are able bodied and truly just scamming, then yes, they would have to get some kind of 'job' or start their own business or something.SyberBitch Wrote:Here, I disagree. I do not believe that those who make a hell of a lot of money panhandling and scamming people, would continue in the same way if it were no longer profitable for them. As someone said earlier, those that truly ARE in need, usually do not go the panhandling route. So what do you think they would do, get a job and become productive citizens? They would work at the labor hall or some other crappy job and do the same exact thing. Do you blame them? They are drop outs of society, it's not likely that any of them work a hard day on the side of the road and go home to luxury, I don't care what anyone says. They get a meal, some booze, cigarettes, and maybe a cheap motel room if it was a good day. If you think you are contributing to drug addiction and alcoholism by giving money to bums then you are naive. They would be that way regardless, you are just giving them a better day buy spearing a few bucks.
I'm never going to change it, because these people prey on the kindness and feelings of guilt in others, but if the charity suddenly STOPPED. Well, I can't really imagine what the addicts would do. I guess try to turn to a life of crime, end up getting caught and thrown in jail where they still wouldn't get their drugs.
There are 'beggars' for one reason only. It works.
