Atheism is the same exact thing as fundamentalism, just the flip side of the coin. Both atheists and fundamentalists are 'fanatics' in that they are certain they are correct in their beliefs (belief in 'God' or belief that there is no 'God').
Deep thinking may or may not have a damned thing to do with how any of us reaches our personal spiritual philosophies. It might be something that you were taught to believe. It might be something that you just decide one day to believe. You might have had some sort of 'experience' and attributed it to some particular thing, sparking your current system of beliefs.
Quote:Couple that with the improbability of proving a negative- an atheist doesn't need to prove there is no God. I don't believe the moon is made of denim, but I can't stand here and prove it to you. I can't prove there are tiny little fairies that push daisies up from the ground, but I don't believe there are.Bad examples. Yes, we CAN prove that the moon isn't made from denim and that fairies don't push up flowers. There are, however, many other things that we cannot prove or disprove (such as the existence of 'God', 'god' or just some 'higher power'). Honestly though, all THAT logic proves, is that the agnostic path is the most logical one because WE DON'T KNOW.
There is a lot of religious claptrap that I simply do not believe because it's ridiculous and personally, I don't think ANY of the major religions have a definitive view of 'God' (or whatever you want to call whatever entity (or entities) there may be), but the basic question of whether or not there even IS some 'higher entity' is unknown to us all, and probably will be in perpetuity.
Quote:I think an Agnostic is a disbeliever. To say "I don't know" if there is a God is akin to someone asking, "Do you love your wife?" and answering, "I don't know."An agnostic is definitely an 'unbeliever' in the terms of most major religions, because he or she does not 'believe' in their particular deity. What they are 'unsure' about, is whether or not there is anything out there to believe in.
