Yeah, I too hope this huge escalation was not influenced by election politics.
Waking up to the news that the U.S. assassinated a top Iranian government/military leader without Congressional authorization reminded me of one of Trump's many repeated false and inaccurate claims / predictions in regards to Obama.

Anyway, I don't know how much support the U.S. will be able to solicit from our allies (with the exception of Israel, of course), considering the uncertainty in those relationships under the Trump regime.
I guess we'll have to wait and see whether the assassination turns out to be a plus or minus in terms of U.S. / world security.
