Newbies death has really got me to thinking......you get on these forums and think that nobody really matters and I have realized today that that is just not true.

Just because you have never met someone in person, does not mean that you can't get close to them. I have read all of Wayne's posts and you canreally see his true personality shine. I think you can get to know someones personality a lot better when anonymous, hiding behind a computer screen.

I don't post a lot on any forum, but I have read every post on this forum and 24 and Wayne truly stood out on both as a star.

Remember what a shock it was for you all when he joined here? I wasn't even a member but was lurking at the time. He didn't really seem to be cut out for this place in the beginning, but, we have to remember he was 64 and after awhile, he came up with some real doozy's.

So....what are your opinions on people you meet on the Internet. How many times have we said on forums that we could care less about the peoplewe are posting with on a regular basis? I don't agree with that at all.

So very true. This is the third time I have dealt with the death of an online aquaintance. Two were sudden, one was expected..a terminal illness. But when you get to know somone through thier words, and when the words are all you have, then it gives you much insight into the person.

I am one who used to say that online friendships did not matter. Well, they do. I have read the reactions to Waynes death on four forums...3 I belong to, and one coin forum provided as a link. All said the same things about him. He did touch a lot of people.

He had a good heart, and I will remember him for a long while.

I have quite a few online friends who are closer to me than most of the people I've met face to face. Relationships are what you make of them, online or off.

One of my best friends I met on a Mom's board. She is one person I can tell anything to and she never judges me. And vice versa. I finally met her in person when I went to Houston and it was like we had just seen each other the day before. No awkwardness or weirdness. I have a few good friends that I have met over the net. Like syber said, relationships are what you make of them.

Anyone who claims "it's just words on a monitor" is a fucking liar.

This has NOTHING to do with Newbie, and I state that again below. That being said -

I honestly don't care to be 100% truthful. To me it is like saying you are upset about some movie star who has died, or someone you did not know at all.

I did not personally know them, so while I will acknowledge that it is unfortunate and sad in general when someone dies, I personally am not sad or upset.

I did not know the person. they were not family, I had not ever spent any real face to face time with them, or even spent any casual time with them.

We all have to many real close friends or family to care about in my opinion then to be upset with everyone who dies.

Right now I am watching Headline News while typing this. I have watched at least 10 stories about people who have died in the past few hours.

Should I feel terrible, sad, or broken up about each of them? Because that is the same as the question that is being asked here. Because if you subscribed to that thinking you would be upset 24 HOURS A DAY, EVERY DAY if you were sad/upset for everyone who died everywhere. People are dying every single second. Are you upset for all of them? Of course not. Because if you were upset 24-7-365 you would be a depressed insane person.

I did not know Newbie and for that reason I am "respectful" to the feelings of others even if I do not agree with them, but ultimately I am not sad.

I have a small handful of online friendships, people that I have genuinely come to care for, people that I would LOVE to meet face to face...Ant & I are gonna hook up this summer and I'm really looking forward to that...And I'd really dig throwing a Mock party but, everyone is so spread out that it would be impossible.

Well I'm not saying this to be controversial or clever but I didn't like the man, I am not going to be a hypocrite and say I did because I didn't.

At 24 he frequently talked down and condescended to me which when you consider how dumb he was is really taking the biscuit. Nearly every single time I posted a cartoon or joke in the laugh it up forum he always took it upon himself to post "I don't think thats funny" or "you are one sick man ninja" etc etc.

I feel for his family, his kids and grandkids, but will I personally miss the man?, no I'm afraid I won't, I didn't like him and the feeling was mutual.

I don't have any online friends. I don't even pick up the phone and call my real friends, so I'm not going to try to make friends with strangers. I guess I would consider the people I talk to online as an acquaitance. I wouldn't ball my eyes out if they dropped dead, but I would feel some emotion.

I only talked to Newbie a couple of times here and photoshoped his picture once, but I thought that was enough to at least say something nice. I don't wish anything bad on anyone, even those who call me a retarded bitch on a daily basis ::laugh::
