On Thursday I was driving back from taking my daughter to college and was listening to NPR. They interviewed a black woman who is a Captain with the Denver CO police force. The Captain was asked about the disparities between the numbers of white and black police force members and the communities they serve. She stated that there aren't many black people that even want to go into law enforcement-they are discouraged by their families, churches and communities. She also stated that many Blacks can't pass the entrance exams to get into a police academy, and she believes that standards must not be lowered to get them in.

I tried to find the interview online, but no luck.

Food for thought: Blacks (and those identifying as Black in combination with other races) make up 13.6% of the population of the U.S.

Ferguson MO has 50 white officers and 3 black officers. 6% of the Ferguson PD are black. There would need to be 4 more black officers to get the Ferguson PD to black/white US racial percentages. However, Ferguson has a 67% black population, so the department should have 36 black officers, 17 white officers to be in line with their population.

The question is; where are these officers going to come from? If you have job openings and no one qualified applies it's pretty tough to hire.

All those percentages seem to make sense on the surface.
Until you think about it, The Law is supposed to be blind and the police are there to enforce the law and protect the public, Color has nothing to do with it.
The color percentage issue is nothing more than "Lowering the Bar" to explain why there are so many black criminals. Yes they are 14% or so of american society, why then are they 73% of the prison population?
Their culture is retarded, they need to change. Stop blaming it on us white folks for keeping you down. I grew up poor and had no cultural support to get educated or improve my life either, yet I managed to do it. it is not because I am smarter than all the black folks out there nor is it because I am white, it is because I Chose to improve, chose to get educated and chose to not be a criminal.

I was reading about some young people discussing what pictures did they think would be used if they were to be killed. Would it be their high school/college graduation pix, the one from Gramma's birthday party where I'm hugging her or will it be the one my friends took when I was drunk and fucking off. They all agreed that it would be whatever pic that showed them in the worst light because that's what sells, mundane doesn't.

Eleven players from the Redskins ran out onto the field last night with their arms raised as a show of solidarity to those in Ferguson, one of the players said, "that could have been any one of us", referring to Michael Brown. Do these guys not pay attention? Michael Brown had just intimidated a store clerk and stole from that store. Shut up & play ball.

Well, I just don't agree with you on that one Duchess. The Redskins as an organization are steadfastly against any and all forms of racism, especially cops shooting violent criminals. They would never be accused of such racist activity as upholding the law.

Rioting and looting is just the ultimate form of patriotism. Setting fire to gas stations and shooting at police officers are rights given to us by the constitution!
