#1
Gimme a break, I'm posting from my phone but Russia seemingly may have hacked in to power supplies in DC if I'm hearing correctly? Thoughts??

Umm...Yea...
I heard a transformer exploded.

Occams Razor, the simplest solution is usually the truth.
Cheap ass thieving politicians don't keep up the infrastructure, or, the Ruskies decide to put a bunch of darkies and yuppies in the dark.

You may be right,Six. I'm just hearing snippets of reports and I usually lean towards the least conspiracy/most credible opinions.

That said, the news pundits/politicians do seem to think we're heading in to another Cold War. Seems like it to me. Putin seems intent on provoking the U.S. and further distancing Russia from NATO. I can see the Russians from California!! hah

So if they had hacked into the power grid and shut part of it down, would you consider that an act of war?

No but I'd expect an equivalent response of shock and awe.

Yeah that but I think we responded equally to North Korea's hacking.
Tit for tat. Playground politics but hopefully we WIN!

Just because I want to be on the winning team, of course.

Here you go...

The crisis in Ukraine has pushed the two sides over a cliff and into a new relationship, one not softened by the ambiguity that defined the last decade of the post–Cold War period, when each party viewed the other as neither friend nor foe. Russia and the West are now adversaries.

Whatever the outcome of the Ukraine crisis, Russia and the West won’t return to business as usual.
Although this new Cold War will be fundamentally different from the original, it will still be immensely damaging. Unlike the original, the new one won’t encompass the entire global system. The world is no longer bipolar, and significant regions and key players, such as China and India, will avoid being drawn in. In addition, the new conflict will not pit one “ism” against another, nor will it likely unfold under the permanent threat of nuclear Armageddon. Yet the new Cold War will affect nearly every important dimension of the international system, and Putin’s emphasis on Russia’s alienation from contemporary Western cultural values will add to the estrangement. Finally, were a security crisis in the center of Europe to escalate, the danger of nuclear war could quickly return.

I'm only worried about being bombed off the face of the earth. It matters not that my country can do the same to them. I'm worried about my own rusty ass.

So obviously they weren't the cause of the power outage in D.C. but they are suspected of hacking.

Hackers working for the Russian government were able to access President Obama’s email system inside the White House, CNN reported Tuesday, indicating that an earlier breach may have been more serious than previously thought.

The State Department and the White House said late last year they had seen suspicious activity in their networks, though the White House said at the time only unclassified systems were affected. That may have been true, but it understated the sensitivity of the information accessed, CNN reported Tuesday, citing unnamed U.S. officials briefed on the investigation.

When I read this, I realized why some people thought War of the Worlds was real when first broadcast.

Ha!!

It's true...I hear bits and pieces of news on the radio. Sometimes it's dangerous how they combine.
