Everything used to be set up on a system of actions -V- responsibility.
it was and is a good system, citizenship used to be an important catagory of education.
a system with no controls is a system in decline eventually the degradation of society will become intolerable
I have seen it first hand, the 13 year old with gang tats and a switchblade is treated by the system the same as a 13 year old who steals a candy bar from the corner store.
maybe that works for you, but it really does not work for the rest of society.
One will learn from the experiance, the other will gain creds and a feeling of pride from it.
These kids may have never gotten to that point if a little back of the seat justice had been delivered at the appropriate moment.
actions -V- responsibility has died and the kids pay the price for it.
Your argument that kids need physical punishment to understand about responsibility is bullshit.
My daughter is one of the most responsible and polite kids you could ever hope to meet and I have never laid a finger on her, I just raised her correctly.

Is this a fair statement?
Teaching a child that violence is ever a solution to a problem is simply the wrong thing to do.
Interesting that everyone in this thread that says they were beaten as a child is in favour of beating children as an adult.
Violence begets violence.
Hey . . . Princess Social Worker . . .
It was a psychology question.
When did I state that I condone violence against children? Seriously, quit multi-tasking while responding to posts. Finish the fag, then post.
However, I do favor reading comprehension. My parents applied this particular technique of abuse upon me, in my youth.
Sorry your folks didn't do the same.

I quoted the wrong post, see? I am fallible just like you.
As for reading comprehension?, bitch please, I have read books you wouldn't be able to get past the first page without a dictionary and a thesaurus next to the toilet.

Are you a Psychologist or do you just watch Dr. Phil? LMFAO! not a psychologist but i do think if someone is going to talk about how "great" negative punishment is they should know what it really is. I am finishing my last two classes towards a psych degree but by no means claim to be an expert on the subject.
Then you should understand "punishment" as opposed to positive reinforcement. They are different. Positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, extinction, and punishment. All different. I had Psy 101, too.

If a kid does something they aren't supposed to, punishment SHOULD ensue. They learn from this that wrong equals negatives. Negative reinforcement is not violence. Good parenting is teaching a child right from wrong, and a toddler understands simple qualifiers of such. A swat on the butt, taking away a beloved toy for a while...something that disrupts the pattern of wrong behavior teaches them there are results of their negative behavior. Patting little dingleberry on the head for doing something wrong only teaches them they can push boundaries further and further til they end up on death row wondering why the hell they are being persecuted when they 'dint do nuthin!'
Passive parenting breeds entitlement and apathy.
I was raised with spankings...even with a belt. Often with the dreaded wooden spoon. It taught me to understand that I couldn't just do whatever the fuck I wanted and not expect someone to bring the shit down on me sooner or later. I don't use violence. I don't have tolerance for it. I do, however, have three extremely well behaved, smart, loving children who have no problem knowing what is right and what is wrong. They don't have discipline problems, they don't act like assholes, and they are so because they were privy to a good swat on the ass when they acted up.
A kid touches a hot stove once. It hurts like hell. They avoid it in the future. Negative reinforcement works. Someone who has kids knows this. Someone who does not...needs to keep their fucking mouth shut and go pet their damn cat.
Well put!! All these namby, pamby pacifists suck ass! I'm glad there are parents out there like you and me who believe a swat on the butt is a TEACHING tool, NOT abuse. Unfortunately, there aren't enough.

Jesus OP, why do you make me do this?
your daughter is what 5 years old? do you see in my post the age that I was refering to?
besides girls in most cases are just a little different to raise.
I raised 3 girls and 4 boys all raised, all with families of their own so how about this -> blow your tiny bit of experiance at parenting out you're ass.

Meh, there's no perfect way to raise a kid. I think most of us rely on our own upbringing for guidance. If you choose not to spank your kid, that's cool, also if you choose to spank your kid, that's cool....to each their own. But where I have a problem is with those sanctimonious pricks that call spanking "child abuse" or "physical abuse".

That would be the new guy KarmaK who doesn't even have any children because he thinks they're gross.

I don't spank- I have the "look", or the "voice" with my children. They know not to fuck with me.
Although I did swat my middle child once when he ran into the street.....

I think those assholes KarmaK and OP need to watch these Andy Griffith episodes and learn a good old fashioned lesson.

Clearly, LC, he's not a 'moron' by definition. But, I'd argue that he says things just to get people riled up. Geez, you and Duchess sure stand up for him a lot. WTF?
