Muslim coalition calls for investigation of alleged NYPD surveillance

Muslim leaders, civil liberties advocates lash out at reported NYPD surveillance on Muslims.

New York (CNN) -- New York-area Muslims and civil liberties advocates called Wednesday for investigations and hearings after a report said that in the years since the 9-11 attacks, city police have carried out covert surveillance on Muslims with the help of the Central Intelligence Agency.
"We need the (New York) City Council to hold hearings and to investigate these revelations," said Ramzi Kassem, an associate professor of law at the City University of New York. He supervises CUNY's Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility project, which aims to meet the legal needs of New York City Muslims affected by counterterrorism policies.

There are undercover surveillance and sting operations to prevent crime everywhere. Agents are placed in hard-core Latino gangs, black drug-dealing networks, white supremist groups... I seriously don't understand what they're bitching about. Is it because this is surveillance of a particular religious group rather than ethnic group? Should that matter if criminals practicing that religion have their own history of covert operations to kill citizens?

They want to keep their issue in front of the news. What they do not
realize is that it is for their protection as much as anything. They
should feel safer, not threatened. Unless....they are doing something
that they shouldn't be.

This is a practice that has gone back years and years. I had a friend
in the 60s who was an inflitrator of Hippy events and meetings. He
was on the payroll of the Army.

all i can say is some judge had probable cause to issue surveillance warrants.
