Attorney General Loretta Lynch ^ announced a 33-count federal indictment against Dylann Roof today; 12 of the counts allege racial motives , and 12 more religious motives.

Roof told friends he wanted to stage race attack, and wrote hateful online manifesto which railed against black people.

Roof is already facing nine counts of murder under South Carolina law and could face the death penalty on both the state and federal charges.

At a news conference, Lynch said Roof carried out the massacre with the goal of 'fanning racial flames and exacting revenge'.

She added that Roof also chose churchgoers as his victims 'to ensure the greatest notoriety and attention to his actions'.

She told reporters: 'Mother Emanuel was his destination specifically because it was a historically African-American church of significance to the people of Charleston, of South Carolina and the nation.

I believe the 12 "religious motives" are a stretch.

He did not wear or was he photographed with anything anti-Christian (religious).

It's another example of darkie's greed against whitey.

Another public shooting...

Kind of eerie that this went down during the sentencing hearing for Colorado theater shooter James Holmes. I wonder if the shooter planned it that way.

Update-- Snip:
The shooter was a 58-year-old white man who was a theater patron, police said. He is one of the three dead (7 others were injured). Authorities have his name but are withholding it as the investigation continues.

The shooting took place at the Grand Theatre 16 in Lafayette, Louisiana -- a city of about 120,000 people, 60 miles west of Baton Rouge.

About 100 people were inside the theater for a screening of the comedy, "Trainwreck," when the shooting happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. ET.

Louisiana Theater Shooting - Update

[Image: 150724-john-houser-9a_42a3300d19ad4859c7...60-360.jpg]
^ A 59-year-old 'drifter' named John Russel Houser has been identified as the gunman behind a deadly attack on a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana Thursday night.

Police say Houser pulled out a hidden .40 caliber handgun about 20 minutes into a screening of the light-hearted romantic comedy Trainwreck, shooting dead two young women sitting in the row in front of him before firing indiscriminately at the rest of the theater to injure nine more.

^ 21-year-old Mayci Breaux, who attended Louisiana State University, and Jillian Johnson, a 33-year-old who runs a gift shop with her husband, have been identified as the deceased victims of the calculated attack. RIP.

Breaux died on the scene while Johnson was pronounced dead at the hospital. Of the nine others injured in the attack, police say two have been released from the hospital and one is in critical condition.

At a morning press conference, police said Houser was from out of town but had been staying a local motel since the beginning of July.

They say they found wigs and other disguises in his motel room, and that his car - parked just outside the theater door - had a switched license tag on it, suggesting that he planned to flee the shooting and escape.

Witnesses say they saw Houser try to disappear into the crowd rushing for the exits, but that he turned around and went back inside to kill himself when he saw police officers running towards the theater.

'It looks like he spotted the officers coming in and he turned around and he went against the crowd, and he fired a single gunshot. He was seated in the theater just like everybody else,' Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft. 'The information we have at this time indicates that he was by himself, sat by himself and the first two people he shot were sitting right in front of him.'

Not much is known about Houser right now, other than the fact that he was last living in Phenix, Alabama and had apparently become estranged from his family.

While he has a long criminal history, Police say Houser hadn't been arrested very recently. His past charges include selling alcohol to a minor and arson - arrests that date back 10 to 15 years.

And now the question . . . legally purchased and registered handgun (by Houser) or not?

Just because some Christians might go crazy and say, blow up a federal building in Oklahoma, there are a lot of godly, inherently good Christians who might be offended if their religion were attached to things like this or the Inquisition...stuff like that.

I heard he was denied (at least) a carry/conceal license and he was involuntarily committed by his family for a time. This is where mental health and guns collide.

Sorry to be spotty/uncertain on the details. I'm on my phone and riding a stationary bike. Not exactly conducive to research.

McVeigh distanced himself from Christianity in an interview he gave to Time magazine in 2001.

Time: Are you religious?

McVeigh: I was raised Catholic. I was confirmed Catholic (received the sacrament of confirmation). Through my military years, I sort of lost touch with the religion. I never really picked it up, however I do maintain core beliefs.

Time: Do you believe in God?

McVeigh: I do believe in a God, yes. But that's as far as I want to discuss. If I get too detailed on some things that are personal like that, it gives people an easier way [to] alienate themselves from me and that's all they are looking for now.

Core beliefs . . . no idea.

Unless he's against gay marriage . . . as is Islam.

No. I was fucking with MS though.

I have no problem calling it radical Islam. I like Daesh even better (because I've heard it twists the group up more). I think there are "good" practitioners of Islam and this group (Daesh) is, unfortunately giving the entire religion a bad name (to those idiots that can't seem to grasp the "radical" or "extremist" prefaces).

As are the Catholic Church, Mormons...

Well now I understand why McVeigh blew up all those kids...he'd strayed from his religion and lost his inherent goodness. 17

These are the women killed last night. It's bad enough to know it happened and then we get to read their names, see their pix, listen to those that love them. It's horrible and always just so freakin' sad and maddening.

Quit blaming the gun for what an effective 'tool' it is.

The criminal pulling the trigger was the tool . . . the gun was the weapon.

Looks like he didn't get the memo that he was declined a CCP.

Criminals will always break the law.

And BTW - he could have used an incendiary device.

He WAS a convicted arsonist.

Thank you HIPAA laws. Another mentally ill person with a gun.

Thank you ACA . . . for NOT having a strong mental health component within the bill.

I read he had major issues with feminism.

I wonder if that's why he shot the two women first?

My guess is that's why he went to an Amy Schumer movie.

Betcha we're gonna start banning strong female comics, soon.

They make men crazy.

The Louisiana theater shooter did in fact have a history of documented mental illness.

Some states have adopted laws that allow them to feed mental illness records into the federal NICS background checking system regardless of HIPAA, but most states have not. That needs to change.

Anyway, more details have been released about the asshole who killed two women and wounded seven others before blowing his own crazy brains out.

-John Russel Houser was a law school graduate who once ran for political office and owned two pubs over the years, one which was shut down for underage drinking.

-After the pub was shut down he hung a swastika flag outside for several weeks as a sign of protest (pictured above, Houser outside his pub).

-He also tried to hire a man to light a law office on fire in the 1980s because the lawyer represented pornographic theaters, which he detested.

-Houser has also been revealed to be an active online commenter, who has professed his distaste with the state of the American economy and morals.

-He was a supporter of the Tea Party and Westboro Baptist Church while also applauding the actions of Hitler and Timothy McVeigh.

-Court documents also show that he suffered from mental illness and that his family had him committed to a mental hospital in 2008.

-His ex-wife, Kellie Maddox Houser, said she became so afraid of him that she hid their weapons, according to another 2008 court document.

If he hadn't obtained one there, he could have just as easily bought one from a gun show or (and this was news to me) off the internet. I've never gun shopped on the internet...I must try this.

Anyway, I was listening to the senator from West VA who co-sponsored a bi-partisan bill with a senator from Pennsylvania (I believe) requiring stricter background checks. He was asked why he thinks their bill didn't pass. His answer (obviously paraphrased): Fear. Mistrust of government. The belief that if that were to the pass, more measures would follow and soon the government would be taking guns from responsible owners. He was interesting. He apparently got a lot of flak for co-sponsoring that bill but as he said: "I hunt. I grew up in a hunting family/environment and I know many, MANY, responsible gun owners...I'm a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment...my ONLY desire is to make it somewhat more difficult for the mentally ill or convicted criminals to get their hands on a gun....".

It's such a simple, small step (and granted it might not even prove terribly effective since criminals typically can/will get their hands on a gun one way or another if they're determined) but it's pretty absurd that we make it that easy for them. It's somewhat ridiculous to me that gun stores etc. are even required to go through the background check process if the same person can just shrug and go online and buy a weapon instead. Why bother with the one without the other?
