Pretty much everyone I know who lives on the coast has that same general attitude in regards to hurricanes.

People seem to be freaking out over this one. If I didn't talk to anyone or watch the news I'd probably be just fine sitting here in my house not knowing anything. It's hard to pack up and leave when you don't even exactly know which way it's going to go yet. If it goes inland it would be better to stay here actually.

I am 1 12 miles from the beach in Fort Lauderdale and staying put. I have a friend in Daytona who lives on the intercoastal who is expecting flooding but is also staying put. She is expecting higher winds and more storm surge because Matthew is expected to be closer to landfall further north in Florida. We have been told to expect sustained winds of 60 mph while further north can expect sustained winds of 90+mph. How close are you to the beach?

I have seen some predictions where Matthew goes north to the outer banks and then makes a clockwise u-turn and comes back to northern Florida.

I'm in the Daytona area, Ormond beach beachside. I've seen models where it hits directly. What a PITA.

Holy crap, houses are cheap there.

And it's a good thing too. I can buy a new one when mine is reduced to rubble. It shows the eye hitting right here, Mandatory evacuation and all the bridges will be closed at sundown tomorrow. I guess I got to board up the windows and get the hell out of here.

So what the hell on you doing on here then, get going, get it done, and make your hotel reservation now before everything is booked!
Get outta there!

It's better to be prepared, and it turns out to be a fizzle out, then the other way around. However, it seems you're in for it! So . . . .

It was really nice here today. I wouldn't be terribly worried about it if I didn't live on the beachside. And watch the news. Hotels are nowhere to be found, not even at freaking LEGOLAND. We were lucky to find one at the airport.

You know it must be really going be bad, when we received a broadcast email message tonight from the 'Isle Casino" in Pompano FL, saying for safety reasons they will be closing down operations tomorrow due to Matty! Smiley_emoticons_skeptisch

All over the news this morning says FL is going to be hit hard by Matty! And maybe even twice!

My thoughts and prayers go out to Sal & Six, and all other Floridians hoping for their safety and well being.

Good Luck all!

This is one of the major reasons we stay up North during Hurricane season. The second reason is the excessive heat & humidity during the summer months.

Matty is gaining strength again. could possible hit Florida as a cat 4.

On a lighter note, here is a visual to help you understand the different categories of a hurricane:

I'm so relieved you decided to evacuate, sal. Cars' advice was spot on (and grammatically correct to boot).

It's gotta be a pain in the ass boarding up and relocating the whole family for a bit. But, I imagine you, the husband, and the three kids cooped up in airport hotel room will make for some interesting stories/memories.

The CNN weather guy just said winds up to 130 - 145 mph are expected in the zone later today and showed photos of what it looks like in the Bahamas. Serious shit. Be safe Floridian Mockers (and lurkers).

Some windows must be easier to board up than others. I bet most windows there have a wood exterior frame for nails. Who the hell would just nail through siding?
