Police investigating a possible new clue in the case of a missing Lafayette woman determined it was a false alarm.

Dive teams from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Department were called in to help after sonar equipment indicated an item in the water near where Mickey Shunick's bike was found.

Police and divers late Wednesday night converged on the location where missing Lafayette woman Mickey Shunick's bike was found to explore a possible new clue in the case.

"There was this area where they felt they needed to be checked again so equipment was brought back out," said Lafayette Police spokesman Corporal Paul Mouton. "They pinpointed the location of that item and, as a result, divers were called out and put back into the water."

The item turned out to be a piece of wood that police said is not related to the case.

Thanks, ZERO. When LE said they had eliminated two of the vehicles of interest (one was the sedan) I didn't think they were too clear about the white trucks. The pics by the Circle K look like the same truck to me but I don't don't know anything about trucks and the last photo is poor quality with all that glare. The back end of the truck is impossible to make out. That's there are a gazillion white extended cab trucks in Louisiana makes it all the harder for ever finding the truck.

I think that's right. I know that people are hoping she's in some situation that she'll escape from but that not only seems so unlikely, but any scenario in which she would be held captive is probably one of torture. Dead or alive, I hope she's found fast and I hope some evidence turns up about this perp so he can be caught.

I think the percentages would indicate that she is likely deceased by now. If that is in fact the case, the real agony is with the family as they continue on their emotional roller coaster. God bless them, because I can't even fathom the hope and helplessness they must feel from minute to minute.

That last view show a high resolution traffic monitoring camera right at the bridge exit. LE has to have time lapse pictures of the traffic. My understanding is that it was put there after the area was used as a dumping ground by one or two serial killers.
