Local and state law enforcement personnel were at a southeast Great Bend residence late into the night Thursday after executing a search warrant at the home in connection with the disappearance and death of Great Bend teen Alicia DeBolt.
Great Bend Police, Barton County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Bureau of Investigation officers entered the house at 1801 Eighth Street at about 10 p.m. But, as spot lights and red-and-blue patrol car lights illuminated the scene, they remained there well past midnight. The warrant covered the entire premises, which included the house and garage.
However, authorities at the site said they doubted anyone would be taken into custody Thursday night. The adult male resident of the house was seen talking with officers as his children and dog sat on the curb nearby.
With yellow crime scene tape encircling the entire yard, investigators (some in white protective suits) went in and out of the buildings. The KBI’s mobile Crime Scene Unit was parked at the curb.
Officers said all statements on the warrant and what was found would come from the Kansas Attorney General’s Office in Topeka, but nothing would be released until later today. They did say their investigation into the death of 14-year-old DeBolt led them to the address.
In addition, they indicated they had the vehicle belonging to the wife of the man being questioned Thursday night. This was possibly a black Ford Escape, a small sport-utility vehicle.
The activity attracted numerous spectators. Some of them said the family that lived in the house had moved in about three weeks ago.
